High School’s Awful ‘Prey and Predator Day’ Lets Guys Dress in Camo While Girls Dress in Animal Prin

Source: Jezebel

<snip>

For "Prey and Predator Day," students were encouraged/allowed to wear outfits that celebrate the sport of shooting woodland creatures. According to a news release, however, Crookston's big celebration of hunting culture has different dress-up guidelines for male and female students: "guys dress in their camouflage and other hunting apparel while girls will show off their animal print." Get it?? Like, okay — they guys are the hunters, right? And the girls are the hunted, because dating is a lot like pursuing a potential mate through the woods and then shooting her with a crossbow.

Crookston residents were predictably upset by the high school's god-awful idea of themed dress-up, so, at the last minute, high school officials changed "Prey and Predator Day" to "Camo Day," which was the exact same thing only without an explicit reference to sexual assault. Although soon-to-be-Applebee's-bartender and current superintendent Chris Bates said that "Camo Day" is just a fun caprice for the students (like Crookston's "Pirate Pride Day" or "Jersey Day&quot and people shouldn't read too much else into it, he also acknowledged that naming it "Prey and Predator Day" was probably a stupid thing to do:

In hindsight and looking at it from a different light, a better decision should have been made. People might see it in a different way than it was intended. The change is good.

Girls in our school would not stand for that because most of them are hunters, out in the field (or stand, or whatever).

Not funny, Crookston. (Was this Crookston, MN?)

The problem is school is seen as a social club by students and as a babysitter by parents. That needs to change. They also need to gut sports programs at all schools. I don't want my tax dollars being spent so Johnny can throw a ball.

Many students don't know squat about history of any kind, either.

the opportunity is there if the kid is motivated to learn and the parent makes sure he understands it is a priority.

can lead a horse to water, cant force him to drink.

Anyone involved in conceiving/approving this idea has no place in the education business.

And also the subtext of women as victim, all too real in every community in the country.

Must be a really stupid community & school.

or weekend. I ran their pub during one of these wonderful weekends.

Lots of drunk gals on campus leaning on light posts dressed like hookers and lots of drunk guys wearing their bling and swaggering like they were true Bad Boyz.

Just practicing for their roles as members of the 1% I suppose.

All the students (both genders) wear camo. The principal and other administrative personnel wear animal prints.

The teachers can borrow the striped jerseys of striking NFL referees and make sure that predators and prey all play by the rules.
