Former Pres. Jimmy Carter Congratulates Grandson on Unearthing Romney Video
How the Romney video leaked: For Carters, it was personal

The self-described Atlanta-based "oppo researcher" who helped broker the release of the secret video that has rocked the Romney campaign got a congratulatory email today from his famous grandfather -- former President Jimmy Carter.
........................
James Carter IV told NBC News in an interview that, starting late last month, he tracked down the source who took the secret Romney video via Twitter -- and then in a series of messages encouraged him to release the full tape to Mother Jones magazine.
After emailing his grandfather the magazine's story about the tape -- under the subject, "Huge campaign news," and calling it "my biggest story yet" -- the former president wrote back at 7:16 am Tuesday: "James: This is extraordinary. Congratulations! Papa."
"I'm proud of my role in being able to track him down," James Carter, 35, said about the source who took the video. "I'm a partisan Democrat. My motivation is to help Democrats get elected. If there is anything I can find in any race, I try to do that."

(43,182 posts)I think the Republicans are sufficiently "surprised" at this point.
Note to Republicans: Don't try to turn the name of one of the most honorable men to ever hold the office of the Presidency into a slur. It won't do you any favors in the end.

(2,322 posts)...like a big family reunion. Not just Carter's grandson's involvement, but how Carter puts it--his unwavering support for his party feels like his support for his grandson. The democrats are "family." And maybe that's why it feels like we may be finally turning a corner, one where the Faux news and pundits don't get to make us look like whatever they want us to look like. One where our very actions and speeches and such make us look like what we want to look like...and it beats out what the repukes are looking like.
We look like we are a family--one which cares about each other and helps each other out. Like we want America to be a family, all of us winning when each of us wins. I sure hope this vibe continues after the election--presuming the dems win not only the presidency but congress. It's a good vibe. A friendly, warm, energetic, get-things-done vibe.
And what a refreshing change that is from the "bad neighbor," my-way-or-the-highway obstructionism of the repukes.

Reminds me of something... to both of them... "...these little wonders, these twists and turns of fate..."

(2,012 posts)As I wrote on DU Sept 3 when the Repubs were mocking Jimmy Carter "the second worst president, Obama being the first" we should be thanking Carter and listening to him. What goes around comes around as my mother would say but Carter would never want vengeance. If Romney had done one-tenth of the good Carter has accomplished in his life, he might make a decent president (or at least a decent person) Happy 88th birthday, Mr. President.
