Nice. Someone tries to sell me weed next to my kid's school.

It sure takes a lot of gall or just plain ignorance to try and sell me marijuana right at the MUNI stop next to my son's elementary school and an SFUSD middle school. He looked like a transient so I doubt he will be back. I know pot is no big deal in San Francisco, but I thought dealers would have a little consideration for where they play their trade.

Pot possession is decriminalized in California, so there is little incentive for SF police to waste their time on penny ante crap like that.

You do not know what has been added to the product.

That's why I buy from my dispensary, knowing nothing has been added - organically harvested.

But though an orderly process like you described, to be enjoyed by adults in the privacy of their home and properties. Not on the street where there are 4 close-by schools.

I think if Colorado or Washington legalizes it, they will quickly encounter unanticipated problems. Dealers cutting the weed with whatever they want. Trying to sell to minors. In a couple of years, the incidence of respiratory diseases will show an uptick.

I'll be told that you don't have to smoke it to enjoy it but the vast majority of people, when they want to get high, aren't going to spend 40 minutes baking it into something. They're just going to light up.

It would be obvious and his customers would just find someone else who isn't an idiot.

In many dispensaries you can buy pre-baked items. The amount of smoke inhaled is very low because legal weed is $600 to $1800 per ounce. That is ~$21 for something the size of a cigarette. Few could afford to smoke themselves into asthma at that price.

I was talking about full-on, state-wide legalization. I don't see how that could be keenly regulated and abuses would inevitably occur.

I didn't think 'legal dealer' had a definition on the ballot in Colorado or Washington. If I'm wrong, someone correct me.

Just like those abuses occur with alcohol.

I mean there's people hawking six packs of Bud Light Lime on nearly every street corner around here.

Oh, wait.

Both state initiatives include provisions for state-regulated cultivation and sales.

Both state initiatives limit it to adults 21 and over.

A few years back a friend was visiting from Australia and we were staying at my brother's. I awoke one morning to find my friend had gone out. When he returned, I asked him where he'd gone. He said he wanted to smoke a joint, so he took a walk and ended up having a smoke over by what, from his description, was the local elementary school. I explained to him the concept of drug-free zones around schools and the increased criminal penalties that apply.

The pic is one I just grabbed from the web, but that sign is in the San Jose area.

My Aussie friend and I had a chuckle over his choice of a "nice, quiet, safe place" to enjoy his smoke.

If your "friend" isn't a cop, he was exceedingly dumb to be dealing anywhere near a school zone.

There's a bar and a grocery store/pharmacy across from a junior high here, that doesn't mean the kids are doing shots on their way to grab a bottle of oxycontin.

It would be hard to find a neighborhood in a city that doesn't have a school in it. Think about it.
