I don't know about you, but I'm feeling moocheriffic today. Now that Mitt has exposed our moocherosity for what it is, we can all just admit that we have to live with our propensity for moocherfication and potential for moocherescence.
If we got the moochertude, let's deal with it and express our Moocher Pride!
So, if Mitt doesn't want to deal with us, well he can just go mooch himself!

(75,480 posts)I live on Social Security, supplemented by a very small pension and Medicare. Never mind that my late husband and I worked all our lives and contributed to it. But I guess that doesn't count. I'm a moocher.

(5,810 posts)Like you I am one of the moocher class. I started collecting my social security in 2011 and my husband did, too, at age 62. We also get a portion of his pension. It is largely gutted to pay for our health insurance. About 3/4 of his pension goes to the premium for our health insurance. (Almost $900/month) So you can bet your sweet ass we are looking forward to next year when we will be old enough to go on Medicare. Yes, we'll still have to pay for that and we will be keeping a supplemental insurance policy to pick up what Medicare does not pay. But I think we just might get to keep more of that pension than we are getting now.
We both paid into the system for a long time. My husband went to work when he was 16 and his father was dying of cancer. He gave his mother his entire check (probably making $1.10 an hour) and she gave him back enough for gas to get to school and his job. The rest went to help them put food on the table and keep the lights on. His mom worked, too, but in menial, low wage jobs. I worked some during our marriage, was a stay at home mom for some of that time and went back to school later in life to get two degrees. Then I worked from 1990 - 2010, including the year and a half I was being treated for breast cancer.
If that makes me a moocher, so be it. I don't know when I have ever despised Mitt Romney more. He is despicable.

(944 posts)I too, like Grammy and Cleita am a moocher. I collect social security disability. It affords me my Bentley,
and, of course, my beautiful beach front home.
What say we all go downtown and pick up some government cheese! I'll drive.

I blame Republicans for the fact that I no longer make enough to pay federal income tax. They are the ones who broke the economy and who are working overtime to keep it broken, and that hurts my clients, which hurts me.

(77 posts)If I pay 30% in state and federal taxes (plus 6.25% in Massachusetts sales taxes), how does this make me a moocher on society?

(37,343 posts)but you file those taxes and they are read by government employees and that makes you a moocher.

(333 posts)I mooch off the gubmint with my student loans while going to community college. Oh how great it is to wait for the bus to get to and from school everyday in the hot sun instead of affording a car!
I'm just living the life here at my community college, so much that I don't even want to attend state college and get a better edumacation! Moocha moocha, moocha moocha!

(14,177 posts)I am just a few months away from my first degree. I am going to a community college. I am funded by a pell grant and student loans and I have to take a freaking bus to school, so I get to be out in all kinds of Minnesota weather everything from the hot sun to near zero temperatures. The bus ride is one hour each way. Oh and this is no joke, I don't want to go to state college, not because of not wanting more education, I just like the school I am going to now and I get real professors teaching my classes and not a TA, not that there is anything wrong with that.
