Is policing a tainted vocation?

I remember hearing about twenty years ago that the priesthood was now tainted by the deeds of abusive clergy and the institutional cover-up. Abusive priests destroyed lives. Unfortunately, this cast suspicion on all priests, even those who had done no wrong. That means that its harder and harder to attract decent people to be priests. I'm not worried about the Catholic Church.

But we do need good police officers who are good at dealing with people, know how to think on their feet, honest, and truly want to serve the public. Are decent people still going to want to be police officers, or has the abuse of police powers damaged the profession beyond repair?

I have never had an encounter with the police that wasn't made worse by their involvement. I'm sure police somewhere have helped someone somehow, but it has never been my experience.

It's a great vocation if you are a serial killer who wants your victims to be offered to you on a silver platter and you don't even have to worry about getting caught or deal with the pesky problem of disposing of the bodies.

It is also a perfect opportunity for ruthless, testosterone-soaked mesomorph, violent sadists to get their thrills and kicks while earning a living, getting good benefits and even a pension.

Working for a police state has great benefits.

What's tainted about that?

We heard it when we lost Florida in 2016 that people needs to abandon and move away from Florida. How is it helping if democrats are losing votes?

We said it when facebook is filled with right wing nuts propaganda. We should all leave facebook and leaving them unchecked.

The democratic party is not left enough so voting 3rd party or being an independent is ok. Instead, we should stay in the democratic party and move the party toward your ideal.

My solutions is instead be the change agent yourself. Make it your mission to join facebook, be a policeman, or move to Florida to make sure our message is getting across and counter whatever the right is saying.

The police surely has their problem, same with facebook and our democratic party. But instead of abandoning it, lets join hands and start the change from within.

You might consider rewriting a bit so it doesn't look like you're saying that about yourself.

often attract the very types that shouldn't have power & influence over others. Law enforcement, management, positions of power in government, politics and religion.

How many good managers have you worked for in your life?

At what period in history are you saying the profession had been undamaged but then became damaged?
