I do not know how best to describe Mitt Romney's speaking style other than to say its like a cross between a whining dog and a lieing 13-year old.
I don't want to call what he does a stutter, because that's not really what it is. Its more like he is stammering for just a moment while his brain searches for the next thing to say - and its not doin' it searchin' in the facts-bin. Its a style that runs me right out of the room, even more than George Bush's platitudes. Romney has this whiney sort of squeeky voice to be sure but its really more the presentation, where he tells one lie and then waits a second to see if the audience bought it and then moves on to the next, always stammering for the second, always looking for that pat on the head that says to him, go on, go ahead, just stretch it a little bit farther. And the nodding heads keep on clapping and pretty soon he's standing there saying things like all three Stooges all at once. I've got to tell you, that man is toast. They may have managed to dumb-down a good bit of the country, but we could never be stupid enough to be duped by that clown.
End of rant. Thank you for your time.

(12,660 posts)The type of person who usually communicates face-to-face, on the phone or via e-mail, unless they have to give a presentation to a group within the same corporation, and perhaps a short "quippy" speech at a dinner party where everyone knows everyone else.
He's probably sufficiently decent talking to people on his own level and people who "know the script" they're supposed to be following, but since he's apparently not capable of empathy or more subtle cues, he appears to be lost when he's outside his comfort zone.
The man needs more than a couple Toastmaster's lessons, and I'm surprised he hasn't taken advantage of them, as they're pretty ingrained in the corporate world. That is, if he's capable of taking instruction from those he considers beneath him.

(10,137 posts)Normally, he's hesitant, stumbling, nervous, laughing when he tells a lie, and generally looking like he'd rather be anywhere else. When talking to those he perceives as his peers, though, he comes off as relaxed, confident, and, dare I say it?, sincere.
IMHO, he just plain doesn't like the majority of people in this country or any other, and his contempt shows. He's a little better than Ann at hiding his dislike of "you people" or the "blah people", but it's there.
