Yes, children are suffering from lack of socialization. It is a strain on parents who rely on school as a place of learning and where they know the kids are going to be for hours so they can work. It is a bad situation that all parents of school age children, and teachers experienced during the last school year.

However, the AAP is not advocating "just getting the kids back to school". No responsible teacher is advocating just sending the kids back in. Pence and his wife are nobodies in this discussion. Pence only because he is the vice president, but he knows absolutely nothing other than it is politically necessary for his boss to have the schools reopen. Karen Pence is neither a full time teacher, nor does she have any public health experience or any understanding of the virus. If she is the best expert the Pence knows on the topic, then it is a testimony of how incompetent Pence is, along with the rest of the Trump administration.

We need to have the virus under control to have schools reopen. That is the bottom line. Right now, it is not under any control whatsoever. The Trump administration does not care and will advance whatever bullshit it needs to to get their political win.
