Funeral services planned for 4-year-old Legend Taliferro
I'm still looking for more info about this "Operation Legend" thing. Here's a video of when McEnany said (sorry for the shitty twitter user):

(59,587 posts)They had something like two dozen members and associates back in the late 90s, but the Mob isn't what it used to be - here or elsewhere.
Like Vito Corleone said - "This drug thing, it will destroy us" - and it did.

virus, and we are looking @ 100,000 + per day of new cases and they do this?

I got to Kansas City on a Friday
By Sattidy I larned a thing or two
'Coz up to then I didn't have an idy
Of whut the modren world was comin' to!
I counted twenty gas buggies goin' by theirsel's
Almost ev'ry time I tuk a walk.
'Nen I put my ear to a Bell Telephone
And a strange womern started in to talk!
Man 1:
To you?
Man 2:
Whut next!
Men:
Yeah whut!
Will:
Whut next?
Gather 'round!
Ev'rythin's up to date in Kansas City
They've gone about as fur as they c'n go!
They went and built a skyscraper seven stories high,
About as high as a buildin' orta grow.
Ev'rythin's like a dream in Kansas City,
It's better than a magic lantern show!
Y' c'n turn the radiator on
Whenever you want some heat.
With ev'ry kind o' comfort
Ev'ry house is all complete.
You c'n walk to privies in the rain
And never wet your feet!
They've gone about as fur as they c'n go,
Men:
Yes sir!
They've gone about as fur as they c'n go!
Will:
Ev'rythin's up to date in Kansas City
They've gone about as fur as they c'n go!
They got a big theayter they call a burleeque.
Fer fifty cents you c'n see a dandy show.
Man 1:
Gals?
Will:
One of the gals was fat and pink and pretty,
As round above as she was round below.
I could swear that she was padded
From her shoulder to her heel,
But latter in the second act
When she began to peel
She proved that ev'rythin' she had was absolutely real!
She went about as fur as she could go,
Men:
Yes sir!
She went about as fur as she could go!

(9,073 posts)There are several articles about this little boy.
KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -- Its been nearly a week since 4-year-old LeGend Taliferro was shot and killed while asleep in his bed in Kansas City.
On Sunday, KCTV5s Leslie Aguilar went to a tribute for LeGend that was put on in the afternoon by his basketball coaches.
His family is pleading for information on the little boys murder. They want justice and they want LeGends legacy to live on.

And this seems to be the basis for sending assistance.
Snip
There have been five homicides in Kansas City, Missouri, since Saturday night. That brings the city's total this year to 64, a dozen more than this time last year and 18 more than at this point in 2018.
At the same time, the COVID-19 pandemic is having a profound effect on how many criminal cases are being filed by the Kansas City Police Department.
"There is no way to sugarcoat this," Deputy Chief Mark Francisco told the Board of Police Commissioners recently. "It is going to take us a little while to dig out of this backlog as we get back to normal."
While the department didn't have an exact number, Board President Nathan Garrett said the overall numbers of cases are "down substantially" and there are hundreds that have not been filed and investigations that are incomplete.

(18,868 posts)It was awful. Probably gang or drug deal related somehow.
Every once in a while a child gets caught in the crossfire when those gangs get to fighting each other.
The police have been trying to deal with the gangs for years without much success. They are all armed to the teeth and mean as snakes. They just drive down the streets and shoot into people's houses. if some innocent person gets shot in the process well too bad, so sad.
The mob that ran everything here in KCMO for years and years did the same thing. And they are still here, too. They just learned to do business quietly so they don't draw attention to themselves.

(9,073 posts)up there. Left in '89 but visit from time to time.
Yes. The mafia was definitely active when I was growing up. The River Quay was where many of them had meetings that brought in members from all over the country. I was friends with the daughter of one member (he had retired due to health issues). My brother worked down at the River Quay when one of the biggest meetings took place. He wasn't one to be scared of anything but it rattled him.
leftyladyfrommo
(18,868 posts)The families got to fighting with each other abd bkew up a couple of bars in the Quay. It was like enough is enough and the Feds came in. The head of tge most powerful family was Nick Civella. He died in prison. They got him for tax fraud. I think his son is either in prison or died in prison. They just got too violent. Too many dead bodies.
Those guys lived close to me. The families are all still here. I live close to the Catholic HS and I hear their names called out at football games. Same names.
I loved the Quay. It was so much fun. We used to go to Madame Lovejoys on Thursday nights. The KC symphony musicians performed on Thursdays and all the symphony people would show up.
There were so many fun artists that had shops.
And then the stupid mob guys ruined everything.
They are still operating. I worked for one not too long ago.

(9,073 posts)I was pretty young (10 years old going on 11) when the bombings took place but I remember the news. It was just months later that Elvis died. I was getting my hair badly feathered in the basement salon of a neighbors house when that news hit.
Did you know the Trozzolo's?
leftyladyfrommo
(18,868 posts)I just recognize some of the names. The Civella people all lived up on N. Flora which is close to me. They had brick ranch style houses with black rod iron on the porches and Mary statues in the front of the houses. They were distinctive. They went to the Catholic church that's close to me and all the kids went to Catholic school. I think they gave a lot of money to the church.
One night one of them was pulling into his driveway when 2 shooters blew him away with shotguns. That was too close to home. Another guy was sitting in a booth having lunch in a little restaurant close to where I worked. They killed him whie he was eating.
It just got completely put of control.
Now they run pretty legitimate businesses and just do illegal stuff very quietly. You don't hear about them but they are there. The man I worked for had done time for paying $25,000 under the table to get a construction job.
chowder66
(9,073 posts)They weren't Mafia. He had several children and it seems everyone on the south side of the river knew at least one of them.
Mr. Trozzolo used to drive double-decker buses around the neighborhood with his kids and gave the neighborhood kids rides. He had a bucket of candy up by the driver's seat for all of us.

(18,868 posts)A whole lot of the Italian families lived over by St. John and that whole area up by the KC Museum. A whole lot of people my age (71) grew up Northeast.
I think they are pretty much gone from there now. Now it's Hispanic and lots of other ethnic groups. If you go South of Independence Ave. you get into gang territory.
It's gotten pretty dicey over there. I won't go after dark. Independence Ave. is too dangerous. Everything goes on over there. And every so often someone gets shot.
There are more police cars on Independence Ave. Than regular cars.
chowder66
(9,073 posts)Between Brookside and the Plaza, West of Brookside Blvd. It may have been the Ward Estates area? I grew up in Brookside. Many of the kids went to same schools as my family and many of the families in that area.
The St. John/KC Museum area was where I knew of lots of Italian families. They were basically east of the River Quay where the Italian grocery stores were/are?
I was under the impression that Indepence had cleaned up a bit. My nephew lives there and my brother lived there up until last year when he passed away. Maybe they are/were in a good part. I remember when it was the meth capital based on News stories.

(34,111 posts)Not the same at all. I had not been there in a while but went there with my son a few weeks ago to go to the Asian Market.
leftyladyfrommo
(18,868 posts)now. It's called River Market.
The Quay was completely different. It was a really popular night spot with fun bars but there were all kinds of shops open during the day.
There is a book about all the stuff that happened with tge mob families and the Quay. One of my customers had it. It was interesting. It went into all the families. I will have to see if I can find it. I would like to read it again.
chowder66
(9,073 posts)on how much it had developed. When I lived in a loft down there there wasn't much of anything to do. Mostly loft parties.
I used to shop at a tiny asian market but I'm not sure if that would be the one since it wasn't in the Quay itself.
I haven't actually visited the area since most of my returns home have been unfortunately for funerals.

"Members of a cartel cell in Kansas City, with drug houses in both Kansas and Missouri between 2013 and 2016, splurged on $10,000 tickets to rapper Pitbulls concert and a Louis Vuitton purse."
