What should Mississippi's new state flag look like? Voters in November will have the chance to choose a design that best represents the identity of the Magnolia state, following the retirement of their state flag.
I like #1 (Dante Johnson), #3 (Reshonda Perryman), and #4 (Qin Mobley). In that order.

(5,256 posts)They're all good and, of course, vast improvements.

(9,132 posts)I like #1, #2, and #4. They're attractive designs and they all break away from the 1894 flag design as well as the one Mississippi used during the War of Southern Rebellion.

I'm not in Mississippi
But here's my 2¢

(102,379 posts)I agree. This is not a flag for a church, but a flag for the entire state--areligious, agnostic, and non-Christian religions alike

(21,634 posts)#1 is very traditional for a flag. I like it a lot.
#2 though is very unique. Outside the box and I think it stands out a lot. Would be a nice thing to try!

(22,758 posts)not a Mississippian but Dante gets my vote (and please Mississippi, keep "in god we trust" off the flag)
In his flag, "the seeds in the center star represent the youth that hold the future in their hands," he explained. Olive branches, symbolizing peace, cradle the central elements. "These olive branches represent an era of change, something that attempts to symbolize bridging the divide that is so strongly present in Mississippi."

Id pick 1 but Id bet money MS would pick In God We Trust if any of them. Im hoping for the old magnolia one. Its traditional enough, genteel enough and people are attached to it.

Retrograde
(10,162 posts)although somewhat busy, but please, can a state do some colors other than red, white, and blue? Green, white, and yellow for example.
And please stay away from stars and bars - even if you change the shape a bit (or a lot).
My husband, who lived in Mississippi as a child, says bring back the magnolia flag.

(58,785 posts)means a flag with a flight of birds flying into a sun could be produced in high quality at low cost. And I like the old-fashioned note of #2 with the magnolia blossom; although it looks more like a camellia to me, that's okay since camellias are all over MS too.
The bold graphic ones remind me of cheerleader outfits. And, again, no need to stick to designs that were easily replicable with old technology.
The last, no religious reference please. I'm part of "we" and don't trust in anyone's god. Don't want to design a flag TO be redesigned all over again a decade from now.
