My Uncle

This isn't him, but it could have been. It looks a bit like him.

He landed at Omaha Beach on D-Day, was shot several times. He had 25 operations, some to save his life. They passed last rites over him twice. He survived with a wooden leg and "tattoos" from bullet holes and surgeries, something I understand all too well. Returning from the war he ran a small retail business, raised a good family and retired. At the end he was on Social Security and the Veterans Benefits. He died a few years ago.

At the end, he was a member of the 47%.

Fuck you, Mitt Romney. Fuck you.

My mother and father were BOTH school teachers. My dad taught fifth grade for thirty years and was an assistant principal the last four years. My mother taught Jr. High school science and math for 30 years. I love them both for their sacrifice.

Fuck you Mitt. They are NOT parasites. They are INSPIRING!

For example, my grandfather provided 14 years of military service. It ended when he was wounded by shrapnel in an exchange of mortar fire. The Germans bombed the hospital he was sent to (at the time, they targeted hospitals), collapsing a wall on him and breaking his back. He was discharged with acute breathing problems from chemical weapon attacks (mainly phosgene & chlorine gas) and unable to walk 100 yards without resting due to back problems. He spent much of the balance of his life in agony in hospitals.

He "mooched" 20 cents per day disability until he wheezed to death as a proud member of the 47%.

The photo touched off my memory of him because my mother has no picture of him and I've been searching various war photo archives trying to find one of him for her.
