education

This is kind of obvious, but one way to get more qualified teachers,(once money for better schools is available), is to give tax breaks to individuals choosing education as a career. How about legislation that teachers pay no federal and state taxes for 15 years as long as they are working as a teacher?

Teachers are not respected - those who can, do and those who can't teach, and all that.

I left a 6-figure job to return to the classroom, making about 1/3 of what I had been making in the private sector (and I'm working about 50% more hours.)

I was just notified of a 4% pay cut (putting me below my 2013 starting salary at this job, except for the fact that I have received two promotions). I was notifed of my pay cut by an article in the local newspaper (and a simultaneous internal newsletter). My daughter, a barista at Starbucks, was treated with far more respect when the had to make the tough decision about how to make staffing match the current need.
