they will never give up until they eliminate he Democratic party entirely. In the end it will be the Demos or GOP. That attitude does not bode well for the country. Their hatred is more open and grows every day.

(6,747 posts)The battle was over by 5:30 p.m. Losses for the day were heavy on both sides. The Union had 12,401 casualties with 2,108 dead. Confederate casualties were 10,318 with 1,546 dead. This represented 25% of the Federal force and 31% of the Confederate.[3] More Americans died in battle on September 17, 1862, than on any other day in the nation's military history.[63] Several generals died as a result of the battle, including Maj. Gens. Joseph K. Mansfield and Israel B. Richardson and Brig. Gen. Isaac P. Rodman on the Union side (all mortally wounded), and Brig. Gens. Lawrence O. Branch and William E. Starke on the Confederate side (killed).[64] Brigadier General George B. Anderson got shot in the ankle during the defense of the Bloody Lane. He survived the battle wounded but later on in October he died after the inevitable amputation.

(39,313 posts)I just watched the series after finding out my great great grandfather had a brigade named after him and he recruited / trained the Blair Brigade in NY. Watching it I was sick thinking of the things he saw and heard about -- it reminded me of the current insanity -- the Republicans will continue until the country is destroyed or they are destroyed and there's Obama as ... well do you see similar themes?

(6,747 posts)most of the deaths were from disease. The people were mostly rural with minimal contact to others but during the war the armies would camp during the winter because they were unable to fight and people died from all kinds of diseases.

(10,602 posts)we are walking neighborhoods and I see a lot of GOP signs. Near me they have all these huge signs up on key corners for local races. Now we are seeing a lot of Crossroads ads on TV against Obama.
We cannot be certain how much money will be pumped in. As I write this post there have been 3 ads in just over a couple of minutes. the blitzkrieg has begun.

Citizens United has struck a deal with a dozen television stations to run its hour-long film featuring voters disaffected with President Barack Obama, sending the Republican critique of the incumbent into tens of millions of homes in the lead-up to Election Day, the groups officials told POLITICO.
The Hope and the Change directed by Stephen Bannon, who made the Sarah Palin movie The Undefeated, was first unveiled last month and it aired during the Republican National Convention in Tampa.
