Mask wearing at the stores...time for a new plan..for the Typhoid Mary's and Marty's

We have an hour we can go to the store in the AM for those over 60..mask or no mask..

This makes no sense to me

What I would like to see .. is a 2 hour window in the AM and the last hour the store is open... MASK only.. forget the age..because 15 year olds.. 30 year olds.. etc can get this damn virus.. and can die from it. Give those three hours to those of us who wear masks..

That will give the non maskers 11 of the 14 hours my local store is open to cough on each other to their hearts content.. Would not want to take the freedom to share their illness from any of those Typhoid Mary's and Marty's

Our CO-OP has rules for everyone on that.. but what we get is an hour in the morning for the oldsters.. but that does not mean they have to wear a mask..

And that is how it is in a LOT of places..

St. Joseph County Indiana (South Bend region) extended the face mask "required" order into September. Signs at the entrances to Meijer and Walmart state that face masks/covering are REQUIRED. Yet, in my experience, it's about 50-60% people wearing masks. Nobody stops those not complying.

Usually no mask requirements in the Kroger that I go to. Only reason there is a mandate now is because cases in our county are on the rise and Dewine said masks are required in indoor establishments. I’ve been click listing my groceries so I haven’t been in the Kroger but I’d bet you that the magat yahoos in my area are not abiding by the requirement. Very little mask wearing going on the few times I masked up and ran in to grab a couple of items a few weeks ago.

5. I wear a mask to protect the store workers--

cashiers, people stocking the shelves, etc.

My grocery store (locally owned) will not admit anyone not wearing a mask.

Aisles are one way, and cashiers are protected by a plexiglass sneeze guard.

We also have an hour set aside for people older than sixty.

None of this is rocket science. It's basically as simple as breathing, once you get used to it.

I go to the stores right when they open and when i know I'll be the only customer or one of very few. I maintain a 45 days stock of supplies at home so i can avoid shopping until I feel the time is the safest for me.

11. Nah, that will be interpreted by anti-maskers as a green light to not wear a mask at other times

And to harass mask wearers for shopping at the wrong time. Not logical or correct, but that is what they would do with that.

And, FWIW, my auto-correct initially tried to change "anti-maskers" to "anti-American"... Not that I disagree.

Since our county Health Department issued a mandatory, public masking rule, most people are complying. Prior to the ruling, I'd estimate that 25% of customers/businesses were in compliance with the voluntary practice rule. Now? I'd estimate over 90% compliance.

The mandatory compliance has had an effect. In addition, the surge reports all around us are finally catching the public's attention.

That being said without hard enforcement, you're always going to have some yahoos who refuse any mandate or warning. Right now, you can be fined $5.00 if a noncompliance complaint is issued. That's simply not tough enough to change the minds of the stupidly stubborn.

Btw, an interesting tidbit from my local township. We've had 45 cases, the overall majority of which falls into the 25-44 year old bracket. It's harder persuading younger people that they are at risk and/or are risking others. This is an example of an invincibility quotient mixed with propaganda measures (the virus doesn't attack the young/ it's all a hoax anyway) having dire effects. On everyone.

Our county instituted the mandate not because the numbers were terribly high but because they'd doubled since reopening. I can recall when the reported case load in China was 400 cases. Six months later, the US is in shell shock and the spread goes on.

13. If cities/busineses won't enforce a mask policy during normal business hours

the won't enforce it during special times either. We've got stores in OK that say their employees always wear masks, they just don't add "under their chin".
