We live in horrible times, and we have to fight against evil but also laugh once in a while I suppose.

In upper grade school classes and again in high school. They had us read pieces written by Nazis and by Communists, and also delved into how our ads and commercials can trick us and how we can avoid being tricked.

My mother found it by asking around and reading anecdotes in magazines and newspapers. Many older structures, little houses mixed in with apartment buildings. A nice little neighborhood Horner Park, a beautiful Hild library, mostly very patient and dedicated teachers and counselors. I attended Newton Bateman Elementary School from about third grade on, and then Theodore Roosevelt High School. Most of the neighborhood people were lower middle class. My family was very poor. I think they saved my life.

PS If you are related to anybody who was on the staff of one of these schools, or the park, or the library, you should know that I tried to write thank you notes when in my twenties, but they were returned to sender. Also, I have been thanking these wonderful people all my life, in my heart, and praying for many blessings on them and on their whole families. I bet there are many others doing the same.

I would add “No talking!” at lunch (just in case you thought schools could provide “socialization” during a pandemic).

Which consists walking half a mile from where the school bus drops the kids off for school and back to where it picks them up to go home. You know, more buses for social distancing so they have to park somewhere.
