PA-10: Perry: 'Generally speaking,' kids won't transmit COVID-19 to teachers

U.S. Rep. Scott Perry on Thursday argued that schools would be relatively safe to open up in the fall, claiming that adults aren't contracting COVID-19 from children, statements that drew a strong rebuke from the state teachers' union.

The Carroll Township Republican's comments came during a tele-town hall, where he noted that "generally speaking," teachers wouldn't be at risk. He specifically referred to the rarity of children in middle school and younger transmitting the coronavirus.

"The science is showing young children are not transmission vectors, so people aren't getting coronavirus from their kids generally speaking," Perry said, citing an unnamed German study that reportedly found the virus doesn't spread easily in schools.

However, many studies say otherwise.

For example, a recent South Korean study of nearly 65,000 people suggested that school reopenings would very likely contribute to more outbreaks and children can, in fact, spread the coronavirus, The New York Times reported.

I'd like to see some medical expert chime in on that.

"The science is showing young children are not transmission vectors, so people aren't getting coronavirus from their kids generally speaking," Perry said

Need proof that:
1. Young children are not transmission vectors.
2. People aren't getting the virus from their kids.

As for 'generally speaking' . . . what is the R value on that?

Bottom line: Perry wants things to get back to normal, and bad luck if you catch it.

Kids -> school exposure -> virus comes home -> infects parents, grandparents, siblings. People die.

Simple enough logic, Perry. Bad luck if that doesn't suit you.

Drinking the Trump Kool-Aid really dulls the intelligence, doesn't it?

Three teachers who shared a summer classroom at a school in Arizona all contracted coronavirus last month, leaving one of them dead.

Kimberley Chavez Lopez Byrd, 61, died June 26, less than two weeks after she was hospitalized. The other two teachers -- Jena Martinez and Angela Skillings -- said they're still struggling with the effects of the virus that has killed nearly 135,000 people nationwide.

All three teachers wore masks and gloves, used hand sanitizer and socially distanced, but still got sick, according to school officials at the small community in the eastern part of the state.

Kimberley Byrd had worked at the Hayden Winkelman School District for 38 years -- so long that she'd started teaching the children of her former students.
