Cancel Culture: a classic conservative tool

Conservative culture is Cancel Culture. Conservatives made it and conservatives earned it. Conservatives, if you are listening, before you preach for the rest of us to be lenient, look into the mirror and ask yourself when you have ever in your life done the same? Every last diatribe you have ever given was a call to your side to cancel the voice of of those without power or wealth.

Racist behavior in the South and the silencing of Black voices has always been Cancel Culture. Joseph R. McCarthy and blacklisting was Cancel Culture. For ages, women who have been abused were silenced. This is Cancel Culture. The entire line of bullshit about Soros is nothing but Cancel Culture. Just like conservatives end up hating the white folk that side with the Black folk even more than they do Black folk, they hate the rich that side with the weak and impoverished.

In Hollywood, there were often two versions of a movie made. One of them was made for the South where Cancel Culture prevented showing anything that might offend a racist. Conservative Christians started boycotts long before we liberals learned to use them.

A clear and recent example of Cancel Culture is how conservatives treated The Chicks (form. The Dixie Chicks).

Now that Cancel Culture has been turned against its masters, they hate it. Not when it turned against Al Franken, they loved that. It is a dangerous tool, but those who have happily wielded it in the past or celebrated its effects are now really upset when it is used against racists and the phobic.

But times have changed. During a concert, it is good manners to take screaming babies outside. Sadly, the Conservative infants in our country have all decided to start screaming.

I have issues with Cancel Culture, but when wielded against those who would rob others of their human rights, it may be one of the few tools we have to fight demagogues. Remember that long before we started boycotting, the religious right was controlling media by their Cancel Culture. Ask Planned Parenthood about Cancel Culture.

Now that things have gotten so out of hand that idiots think it is fine to not wear masks during a plague, it is clear that we have been driven into a corner by evil idiocy. After long years of defending the rights of others to have an opinion we have found the limits. Those who would deny the rights of others and will not be quiet and will not stop, we cancel. When an idiot Conservative argues that it is a brave man who carries an automatic weapon to go shopping, the sane must learn to be quiet and then, never, ever talk to that idiot again.
The racist ammosexual is loudly practicing Cancel Culture. When it is turned around against him, what right does he have to cry?

I, too, fear Cancel Culture. I would like to defend some icons or try to bring some depth to several subjects that I honestly fear to bring up. I would love to see reasoned responses to these ideas without automatic snaps of judgement. But right now, I don't think it is time, and I am quite certain that if we do listen to those conservative voices who are urging us to be lenient, no one, not a single member of their side will decide to turn down the volume on their insanity.

Conservatives, you never call for your dogs to stop barking. You never, ever call for the restraint of your rabble. Until you have the bravery to speak up to Rush Limbaugh or Alex Jones, don't you dare try and ask for us to withhold our scorn. Cancel Culture is something you created, and it is going to take a big change on your side to make it go away. I would love for it to go away since I suspect most of what we know as Conservatism would be gone without it.
