Do not become complacent

In August I worked the polls here in Palm Beach county Florida for the Democratic primary which was combined with some non-partisan issues...judges etc. Because of redistricting many people had had their polling place changed and weren't aware of that change.... There were 2 precincts assigned to vote where I worked, with a total of 2,500 registered voters. That day only 240 people bothered to vote and another 50 or so had to go to a different place to cast their ballot. So fewer than 300 out of 2,500 showed up to vote. I don't know what the numbers were for the earlier Republican primary, but I would imagine they were almost as dismal. With so few showing up to vote on primary day, I'm worried about how many will show up to vote and find, after standing in line for an hour or more, that they can't vote at their old polling place and simply give up or run out of time. Florida has cut the early voting days almost by half. To make matters worse they have added a boatload of amendments to the ballot, many of which they have reproduced in their entirety...thus the ballots will be very long (In Miami-Dade the ballot runs to 10 pages) This will slow down the process and could end up with many would-be voters simply stepping out of line and going home. Then you have the "True the Vote freaks" who plan on going around and no doubt silently intimidating minority voters by standing there and glaring at them, or blocking them in some subtle way....If this is a close race come election day, do not be surprised to see Obama lose here and in several other states with republican Governors and legislatures. I am very worried. Minority voters don't trust absentee ballots, they believe they won't be counted...and they could very well be correct. But the way the state has rigged the voting days and the ballot issue, it could be a very bad day for Dems here in FL.
