Forecasters Disagree on Tossups 100 Days Out: Campaign Update

With little more than three months to the election there’s some disagreement over who will win the swing states. Democratic nominee Joe Biden is up in Michigan, Pennsylvania and Minnesota in Fox News polls. And President Donald Trump promised a “great third quarter” for the economy. There are 102 days until the election.

Political forecasters give Joe Biden the edge in the Electoral College, but they disagree on which states are tossups as the 100-day mark from the election looms on Sunday. The Biden and Trump campaigns seem to agree that the race will be decided in the Rust Belt states of Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, with the Sun Belt states of Arizona, Florida and North Carolina also in play.

In initial race ratings released on Friday, ABC News projected that Biden would win back the Rust Belt but it left the Sun Belt in doubt, declaring that Arizona, North Carolina and Florida, as well as Georgia, were tossups.

The Cook Political Report, meantime, gave Biden the edge in the Rust Belt as well as Florida, but listed Arizona, North Carolina and Georgia as tossups.

The Center for Politics at the University of Virginia, run by Larry Sabato, put Michigan and Pennsylvania in Biden’s column but left Wisconsin as a toss-up along with Arizona, Florida and North Carolina.

4 or 5 more states.

Trump and GOP only tactic to come close would be all out voter suppression and vote hacking. Both difficult to achieve if we have massive vote turnout

We can't be stupid enough to take fringe states for granted based on recent history and preference polling alone. That would be moronic.

For example, Nevada has no ideological advantage whatsoever toward Democrats. We've won that state solely due to great organization and messaging in the two prime areas, Clark and Washoe. If we sleep on the state Republicans are eligible to do exactly the same thing in reverse, along with getting out more of the vote in the cow counties.

Here are the 2016 exit poll numbers in the other states we should never take for granted. When states are in the 30s in self-identified conservatives, with a gap to the liberal number, they are fragile as hell. We don't want to get caught stupid again. I'll separate the first two from the pack because they are very risky with the mid 30s numbers. I don't think we'll lose these states but they need to maintain within the rotation for emphasis. There is not one state that Republicans take for granted that is in an ideological danger zone for them. We make it a habit:

* Nevada 36% conservatives 25% liberals
* Colorado 35% conservatives 28% liberals

* New Mexico 34% conservatives 29% liberals
* Virginia 33% conservatives 26% liberals
* Minnesota 32% conservatives 28% liberals
* New Hampshire 31% conservatives 27% liberals

what they can to make this election appear close. To me that adds to the tidal wave that's coming
