Gilmour's solo in that song is probably the best part of that entire album.

Also, The Gunners Dream, 2 Suns in the Sunset, and Southampton Dock are pretty solid tunes. Most of the rest is ... okay.

35 years after (!) I listened to it a bunch (when it came out) ... I still know almost every word to every song on that album. That's how much I played it when it came out lol ...

I am like that with Amused to Death. One of my favorite albums of all time AND still relative today. Watching TV is especially meaningful atm.

I got it when I came out and I think I listened to it once and then sold it to the used record store a month later.

I remember it being really long, really heavy-handed and preachy, and virtually devoid of anything resembling 'hooks'.

Maybe I'd have a different perspective nowadays. And maybe it takes more than 1 listen to appreciate. Certainly wouldn't be the first time

Hell I thought R.E.M. Murmur was 'okay' the first time I heard it. About 1000 spins later it's one of my all-time favorites.

And there is a theme. And he takes on some heavy subjects...all with some of the very best musicians in the business.

I think it gets unfairly slagged, so in that sense, it's underrated. Overall, I think it's good, doesn't quite reach great. It needed WAY more David Gilmour. Gilmour on lead vocal on only 1/2 a song on a whole album ... is not enough

If it were Rogers Water's solo (which it practically is) I would hold it in higher regard because the competition is much less stiff ...

There's 4 tunes I think are damn good, including TFMH, and the other 3 I mentioned. The rest is solid but unspectacular.

Honestly out of all the post-breakup work ... and I've heard it all ... There are songs I like here and there for sure, but it's like ... the sum was greater than the parts, man. Same w/Zep, the Beatles, every great band really lol.

Sorrow on MLOR is my favorite single tune ... like that's a legit Floyd-quality tune ... and that is for sure my favorite album overall, by a considerable margin.

AFA just an album side goes ... I can still totally groove to side 1 of About Face, just spun it on Vinyl the other day. Pretty good set of 5 tunes, I gotta say.

And even though it's a bit ... let's call it ... 80's-produced (and a really hokey concept), there's some solid stuff on Radio KAOS. The Live Aid song is awesome as is Who Needs Information and a few others.

Those 3 records are the only one's I still listen to w/any frequency.
