Mnuchin: Virus aid package soon, $1,200 checks by August

https://apnews.com/77fb2de39e69ae6e4d233ac666fce346

WASHINGTON (AP) — Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said Saturday that Republicans were set to roll out the next COVID-19 aid package Monday and assured there was backing from the White House after he and President Donald Trump’s top aide met to salvage the $1 trillion proposal that had floundered just days before.

Mnuchin told reporters at the Capitol that extending an expiring unemployment benefit — but reducing it substantially — was a top priority for Trump. The secretary called the $600 weekly aid “ridiculous” and a disincentive for people to go back to work. He also promised a fresh round of $1,200 stimulus checks would be coming in August.

"We’re prepared to move quickly,” Mnuchin said after he and Mark Meadows, the president’s acting chief of staff, spent several hours with GOP staff at the Capitol. He said the president would “absolutely” support the emerging Republican package.

Mnuchin’s optimistic assessment came before Democrats weighed in publicly on the updated proposal, which remained only a starting point in negotiations with House and Senate leaders in the other party. He said he recently called House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer ahead of shuttle negotiations next week on the broader deal.

Is him.
People are out of work because of Trump’s failure. How can you go back to work safely? And many businesses have closed down because of Trump’s failure.
300 a week does not even pay for a small bedroom in a shared apt. in some cities.
Even far from the center. And people have used up their savings. If they change it, it should be done the way unemployment is done, corresponding to what you were making before.

There are just not enough jobs for everyone! The only ridiculous thing here is what comes out of Mnuchin’s mouth.

misadminstration, they would put some of the many unemployed to work doing contact tracing, something desperately need if trumpers cared about getting rid of the virus.

Bet the unemployed would be willing to work for that $600 a week the stingy repugs are about to take away.

is not going to go for any bill without the $600 a week continuation. So for him to promise another $1200 check when they're going on August recess next week without an agreement with the Dems is just talk out of his ass.

These bastards don't give a damn about the people who are suffering from joblessness and economic insecurity. But I am sure they are cooking up a way to find a few billion more to throw to their corporate bootlickers. There is always plenty of money to be found for them.

By trump and Moscow Mitch stalling , and now stiffing us, heading this country into a trump depression , have turned many states and the people blue for generations to come. They're trying to create unrest so trump can claim martial law to keep power and control .

My heart goes out to those who are going to be getting hurt because of the Repukes inability to give a shit about other humans.
