There is a section of America that is forever lost to rationality

I saw someone on the interwebs describe this bewildering display of contrasting positions on democracy, the Constitution, and the rule of law as cognitive dissonance. But part of cognitive dissonance recognises that they hold may conflicting views or emotion which might manifest itself as stress, anxiety, regret, shame, embarrassment, or feelings of negative self-worth - emotions I am going to hazard a guess are rarely felt by the committed cult members to the great orange fuckwit. The fact that they are unable to recognise the utter hypocrisy in holding both of these opinions simultaneously demonstrates that they are lost to rationality, and I fear for the committed core there is no way back from there. They are too far gone.
