How is it that last night in places all over the country protests suddenly became more violent, more fires started, more "explosives" (when has that ever happened) tossed at police after protests had been relatively quiet for a few weeks? The description of events in Oakland, CA in the newspaper here included "protesters . . . started chanting racial slurs at residents." No one here EVER chants a racial slur at ANYONE of ANY race. There is some real B.S. going on now, setting things up for Trump to send in the federal police.

(53,784 posts)create chaos and violence to discredit the protests so there is an excuse for police to move in. Same thing happened in Minnesota, Atlanta...wherever there are peaceful protest, then of course the looters move in, which is also intended. There's a definite pattern. Before it was Hoover's FBI, who knows who is behind it now but I'm sure it comes from the right.

(53,784 posts)There's a difference. And many are likely paid. Who goes to protests dressed to hide their identity if they are just there to protest?
HotTeaBag
(1,206 posts)People hide their identity when breaking the law to hide their identity while breaking the law.
Kinda like bank robbers wearing masks and such.

(53,784 posts)from state to state, black-clad with identities hidden, to disrupt the protests. There were many videos shown on this very board of them systemically walking down streets in Minneapolis breaking every shop window on the block. You didn't see any of those here?
It's pretty obvious they weren't doing that for free.

(1,206 posts)in Minneapolis - don't know if he was paid or not and neither do you.
What's pretty obvious is that no one seems to believe that some of these 'protesters' aren't protesting anything and have no idea what the protests are even about, but are there to simply cause trouble.
Righteous angels they are not.

(5,641 posts)These are all old tactics used by our government forces and have been in practice for a long time.
To think that these tactics would not be employed by this criminal cartel currently inhabiting the people's house is to ignore reality.
They want civil unrest. If they can get us fighting each other, they win.

(incidentally -- I think the MN thing was local and internal -- and thus a somewhat different thing from the OP topic)

(3,803 posts)Thousands of peaceful protesters are "boring". A handful dumbshits with fireworks are much more "interesting".
Plus agent provocateurs, of course, but the dumbshits are making them unnecessary.

Just stay disciplined if you're protesting.

(41,984 posts)We used to live on Capitol Hill and were out noodling around yesterday afternoon when we decided to go see what was going on in the former CHOP, where theyve said violent protests went on the night before. There were many boarded up windows and lots of graffiti but there were NO people other than those just going about their business (all in masks I might add). It was utterly quiet.
Less than an hour later I was home and turned on the TV to local news with the banner Police declare riot in Seattle. And there was live footage of a ton of bicycle cops facing down maybe 200 people, indeed with some scuffles. A fire had been set in an empty building they were planning to make a youth detention center
I cannot for the life of me figure how this happened within such a short time unless there was some organized effort, not to protest, but to create trouble. And of course things didnt get any better.

(13,114 posts)It doesnt take the blind to see that it is not a coincidence that protests that had all but died down nationally are suddenly re-emerging in the wake of Trumps federal intervention reelection stunt.
One person and one party stand to benefit from this chaos.
Furthermore WHY are they even protesting now? Its coordinated and the gullible are showing up. I dont think they even know why they are protesting at this point. AND notice that most of the new protesters arent wearing masks unlike a month ago.
