Portland apparently has a long history of protesting, both peacefully and violently. The peaceful protester make up the vast majority and the violent one's the trash burn and loot are a small unaffiliated bunch. I think that the title of Anarchists is fitting .

During this initial round of carnage the Judicial Center was vandalized. Windows were broken, the building was defaced, a fire was set inside etc. The building was subsequently fenced in and became the focal point of late night protests that include a group bent on provoking a confrontation with the Portland police. On a nightly basis for something like 50 nights this cycle repeated. A group up at the fences would push the police to declare an illegal assembly, the police would repeatedly ask the crowd to disperse or they would use non-lethal deterrents. The crowd would'nt budge and police would use the non-lethal deterrents. This cycle repeated every night. The crowd was not wholly innocent. There is footage of objects being thrown over the fence at police and additional vandalism or attempts of vandalism were made.
This IMO opened the door for tRumps merry band of feds to come in to protect the federal building that became the focal point.
Vandalized boarded up looted buildings are not acceptable. It is the job of local and state government snd the police to prevent these things from happening and to restore order if they do happen.
Letting it continue for nearly 2 months was dropping the ball.
