So you hire totally unqualified "contractors", give them millions of OUR dollars, ask them to build a wall with no specs.
What could possibly go wrong.

Does Trump care? Probably not. It's already served it's actual purchase - funneling trunkloads of public money into the hands of private contractors and donors. If it gets blown over, so much the better. He can throw more money at them to put it back up again.
In that sense, he's very competent - at the thing he's actually doing as opposed to the thing he says he's doing.

(10,271 posts)Is figure out to the thin cent, how much his presidency has cost the treasury. Then IMMEDIATELY jack up the tax rate on the top 1 percent so that every single one of those thin cents is recovered in the next fiscal year.
The republican donor class enabled this worthless grifter to loot the treasury; I say we punish THEM for this bad decision to such an extent that they never even consider doing something like this again.
This can be in addition to indicting this entire cabinet for federal crimes...because yeah, I fucking well WANT my pound of flesh this time.

(9,426 posts)given back, at their expense. They seem to be hell bent on draining the treasury at this point, all to cover for tRump's mistakes and neglect. The $1,200 checks are chicken feed compared to how much this grifting family and administration has cost the people of this country. The gop has proved once again they STINK at leading this country. Now we need the democratic politicians to repair the unmitigated disaster they are leaving behind. Total failures the entire group. We all knew tRump was useless even before Putin put him into the WH, surely the gop knew? What an ungodly mess they will leave behind.

(15,805 posts)Makes you wonder if there was any engineering studies to test the architectural soundness of this debacle.
Having built a couple of solid fences in my day, they need a support footing beneath the actual wall the anchor the structure to the bedrock for strength. As tall as that monstrosity is, the footing would have been very deeply embedded.
Was the wall even permitted? Maybe they skipped local building codes for the construction so they cut the costs of installing any footing below grade. That appears quite likely since the wall couldn't even withstand desert winds.

(5,174 posts)A portion of this wall was supposed to run through a protected butterfly habitat. I hope this wall gets nixed and defunded. Butterflies were not the only wild species impacted by this sad story of the wall.

(25,364 posts)It happened in June 2020 in Demings, New Mexico. Apparently, a freak storm occurred while constructing the fence. That is why the hard hat guys are there. The fence had not been secured yet.
Here's how it looks in Brownsville. See how it's swampy? The clip is desert. Not all of Texas is a desert!
