"An hour before Dr. Anthony S. Fauci threw the first pitch at the season opener between the New York Yankees and the Washington Nationals, President Trump stood on the briefing room stage at the White House and declared that he, too, had been invited to throw out his own opening pitch, the New York Times reports.
Said Trump: Randy Levine is a great friend of mine from the Yankees. And he asked me to throw out the first pitch, and I think Im doing that on Aug. 15 at Yankee Stadium.
There was one problem: Mr. Trump had not actually been invited on that day by the Yankees
His announcement surprised both Yankees officials and the White House staff.

This is why you don't invite him to your funeral. He'll try to upstage your corpse

(12,637 posts)the corpse clause *first*! So I guess its become pretty squishy. I like the way I heard it best. The corpse is slightly shocking when it comes last.
If I gather up the energy , Ill look to see if I still have the Eleanor Roosevelt biography where I first saw it. It was said after Theodore upstaged Franklin and Eleanor at their own wedding ( which you probably knew, but its a great story for those who didnt).

(36,299 posts)He's send a letter congratulating some town on the statue of him they'd recently erected, and promise to come visit in the near future. Well, you can bet they got busy and put up a statue!
Doesn't work if you're a lame-ass disgrace who's about to be tossed out by the voters.
