Georgia GOP Senator's Campaign Claims 'Anti-Semitic' Ad Was Just A Graphic Design Gaffe

Sen. David Perdue’s campaign says it was "an unintentional error" by graphic designers that resulted in distorting an ad that shows Jon Ossoff, who is Jewish, with a bigger nose.

A GOP senator’s reelection campaign team was accused of playing off anti-Semitic tropes with a digital attack ad involving a manipulated image of his 2020 opponent.

Sen. David Perdue’s (R-Ga.) campaign has now removed from Facebook the ad, below, that showed Democratic challenger Jon Ossoff, who is Jewish, with a bigger nose:

Someone knew what they were doing. It was intentional. Everything else in photo is to scale.

Gosh, all these "mistakes" from Republicans in their political ads and social media posts.

Photos don't alter themselves -- someone has to do it, and then another someone (or someones) likely approved it for release.

The ad called for donations to Perdue, a Republican, by claiming that “Democrats are trying to buy Georgia.” It uses black-and-white photos of Ossoff and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, who is also Jewish, that have been Photoshopped to appear as if they were pulled from an old television set with poor reception.

But the Ossoff image, which was adapted from a 2017 Reuters photo of him, was also changed by having his nose lengthened and widened, even as other parts of his face stayed the same size and proportions, three graphic design experts told the Forward.

Campaign vendors do stupid sh*t like this sometimes. I was once featured in an ad for Brett Schundler, a right wing Republican running for governor of New Jersey because an ad vendor he hired had the brilliant idea to photoshop a picture from a Howard Dean rally to make it look like a Schundler rally. I believe the distortion was probably designed to be anti-semitic, but I find it plausible that the ad vendor did it without authorization from the candidate.
