Nevada sheriff to library: Support Black Lives Matter? Don't bother calling 911

RENO, Nev. – Douglas County, Nevada Sheriff Dan Coverley has a message for his county's library: Don't bother calling 911 for help anymore and good luck dealing with lewd visitors and disturbances on your own.

His outburst, which he posted in an open letter on the sheriff's office website, follows an aborted plan by the Board of Library Trustees to consider a statement of diversity and inclusion at a public meeting that was canceled today.

The draft statement denounces "all acts of violence, racism and disregard for human rights." It reads in part: "We support #BlackLivesMatter. We resolutely assert and believe that all forms of racism, hatred, inequality and injustice don't belong in our society."

That line prompted Coverley to write a statement of his own.

"Due to your support of Black Lives Matter and the obvious lack of support or trust with the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, please do not feel the need to call 911 for help," Coverley wrote. "I wish you good luck with disturbances and lewd behavior, since those are just some of the recent calls my office has assisted you with in the past."

Talk about a bunch of whiney little brats. “If you’re friends with Tommy I won’t be your friend anymore.” Sheesh! I swear my special ed elementary school kids were more mature.

yet YOU are gonna tell US whether or not you perform your job function?

In what other employer/employee universe does this EVER happen without the now ex employee kicking rocks?

supports the notion - make you not want to do the job you were hired to do? Unless you think that policing is synonymous with brutalizing and murder and you are incapable of doing your job if you will be held accountable for such.

I am amazed at the things people publicly put in writing these days, and not in a good way.

county by population. Total deep red county. Remember Danny Tarkainan, well he is running for the County Commission in Douglas even though he lives in Henderson Nevada. Gunning for the House District 1 Seat held by Amodei.

Douglas has a lot of population spillover from Washoe. Esmerelda County has just under 800 people.

Both are beautiful country but like anywhere that isn’t urbanized Nevada, kinda scary too. I always tell my visitors Nevada is a different planet once they get out of the Vegas city limits.

once you leave the Vegas Valley,it is eight hours of the same Scenery all the way to Fallon or Yerington. For us,we do not mind,we will stop and grab a rock hammer just to check for minerals. Others crab all the way to Fallon or Yerington until the Scenery changes..

Someone needs to tell him what his job entails.
What is not in his job description is getting to decide which crimes deserve a response and which don't.
What it does include is upholding the codified laws.
