NY-12: Carolyn Maloney wind her primary.

Five weeks later, it appears Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D) has defeated Suraj Patel (D) by ~3,700 votes in the #NY12 primary.

But 12k+ absentees out of 65k+ cast were invalidated (mostly for being late/lacking postmark) and I still don't see new results posted by an official source.

all the invalidated ballots. This November will be a shitshow. With the way that 2020 has been going, I guess it's par for the course.

Our supervisor of elections has a super fast scanner just for mail ballots. Starting at 7 a.m. on election day, ballots are fed into the scanner.

They also do a good job of "curing" mail-in ballots - contacting people to let them know there's a problem (usually a signature) and giving them a short period of time to go in and fix the problem.

8. Exactly - the state was "closed" in March, 3 months before the primary, and the mail-in criteria....

....was changed only a month or so before the primary.

No one expected this to happen leading up to the primary. The delay was the result of being cautious - "better late than sorry". The BOE wanted the result to be ACCURATE regardless of the timing.

The November election is taking place 6 months after much of the mechanics were worked out, not weeks or a month ahead of time.

There were several things that weren't anticipated, even something as simple as the fact that the USPS doesn't postmark "Business Reply Mail", which was how the ballots were mailed in. So they had to come to an agreement on how to handle ballots that came in after the election but weren't "postmarked", as required.

All of these details have now been experienced and worked out. I'm confident the general election will be smooth.

9. I voted for her because she stood with the Dems on impeachment.
