(18,402 posts)It was the best speech, actually, I'd ever seen her give. (Note: she's a great Speaker, not always a great speaker; this time she was both.)

This funeral was personal to me because I once attended a convention where I sat in on one of congressman Lewiss speeches. It was kind of a side speech on a side day so there werent very many people in the room and my friend and I sat right in the front row not 10 feet away from him. Out of all the speakers I went to see that weekend, he was by far the best. He had us rolling in laughter with his stories, and knowing we were in the presence of someone very special.

(18,402 posts)Thanks for the story.
If you get a chance, try to see the speech of congressman Lewis's deputy chief of staff, who spoke at length about what went on inside the office over the years, and what kind (heavy on the "kind" of boss he was.

(6,150 posts)It was very good of you to put this together.
I find myself offering a prayer to everyone who felt it so necessary to attend that they sacrificed their health, for they were a bit too close in there, and those outside, shoulder to shoulder, way too close.
I hope with all of my heart that no one gets sick from participating in this beautiful homecoming.
