Are they playing? I know some in Georgia are playing, just saw pics on one of my by marriage family member's FB page. Also saw on same page a 'funny' pic of their baby holding a Corona beer bottle. Haven't had contact much with these people since my husband died in 2002... But seriously, wtf, Little League Baseball is up and gaming without a care in the world? All the parents in the stands? Again, wtf?

I saw kids wearing masks while there.

(6,084 posts)school program that gave the kids classes like coding and Spanish lessons, but kept tag football and other sports programs open, because apparently socially distancing in a classroom was not a good idea but contact sports are okay

(21,600 posts)kids were not allowed to high five or anything and there was no dugout. you sat with your parents when not in the field. they had to cancel the season when a mom tested positive. my friend had to get tested and was negative but was terrified. i'm thinking, what did you guys think was going to happen?

(10,273 posts)Has been running tournaments since about mid july (when everything local opened back up, minus 2 weeks of calander planning n notification calls).
And it's pretty much as you say; not much of a care in the world. This is contrasted by the news that the Cardinals reported a buncha cases this week n canceled a set of games with Detroit.
This is local, but my suspicion is that if the local districts here do ANYTHING but complete distance learning (and they are), everything in my metro area will be shut down again by halloween weekend.

(11,770 posts)Let them play this year. I played from 4th grade until I was about 25. I quit when at short, I ended up with a busted right middle finger that didn't heal well. My sons played into high school, until their dad died, then they just left the game and didn't look back. I've been on a lot of fields, and there's no way to avoid direct contact... What the hell are they gonna do, disinfect every kid head to toe before they go home? Not gonna happen, and now with school? This is all complete bullshit.

(38,322 posts)It hasn't been cancelled, instead they are practicing and playing these fascinating zone games.
I don't know if it's a good idea or not but it's fun watching the kids play like they've got six foot force fields around themselves. Improve that passing game!
Alas, our local basketball courts are full of sweaty shirtless older teens and young twenty something guys yelling and shoving one another around. I'm sure the covid virus loves that.

(11,770 posts)When those kids move to U10 or whatever, they will be incredible.
The basketball courts are definitely a worry.

(25,586 posts)My daughter plays competitive roller derby, but thats shut down for the season. No way to stay socially-distant when youre shoulder-checking someone into the next ZIP code, so even if they were stupid enough to have games we wouldnt allow her to compete anyway.
My son is an indoor cat. No sports for him.

(11,770 posts)rolled pro for a while (Portland OR Metro area). They were on the same OM team I co-coached.
I don't consider baseball boring. I love the game and the strategy involved. My husband and I used to take our boys once a year to a Mariners game. I was the team mom and book for our boys' teams. There is a real beauty to the game, if you're involved. I remember my sons' eyes lighting up at the sight of the field and then them calling the pitch, play, etc... It's a memory that will always be with me.
Kudos to your daughter for her ambition and hard work, and sorry her season was canceled.

This is my son's main social interaction as he will be online for school this year.
So you can understand, my son just turned 10 and his cleats are men's 9 and he wears men's medium clothes.
Apart from.weight lifting, or wrestling this is really the only sport that suits his body type.
Basketball may be an option later, but at his age that sport is dominated almost solely by small, fast, shooters.

His primary sport is soccer, but youth soccer is shut down - no competitive games allowed in Fall 2020.
