have large caches of weapons of war, or assault weapons. Do You think your white folks would be happy? I wouldn't think so.

Don't think anyone would want to give them up. And especially so many new owners who decided to purchase.

There were several threads here the last month or so showing the interest in black gun ownership, with pictures etc. showing possession of AWs.

Everyone seemed concerned only about the supremacist white and NRA response, without wondering how all these gun owners would feel about giving them up.

It sounds like new owners are counting on them as life or death. Would you give yours up?

Lots of 1 issue voters, especially when they think (their) lives are at stake.

A new ban with fewer holes but full grandfathering probably won't upset anyone except the hardcore gunners. Bob who bought a semi auto pistol or assault rifle for self defense might not care as much as he gets to keep his.

I've said it before on this topic, if we ever want to get them out of circulation the best way is to clamp down on new supply and offer extremely generous payments for buybacks. Cut supply and use their greed to get most of the gun owners to happily turn them in for several times what they paid.

Under his proposal, someone who has a Glock pistol with 3 standard 17 round magazines and an AR-15 with 5 standard 30 round magazines would have to register the rifle and every one of the magazines at a cost of $200 each under the National Firearms Act.

This would cost such a gunowner (who is, if anything, underarmed compared to most who own moden firearms) $2,000 to be allowed to keep what he currently owns.

The NFA required registration of the firearms but not magazines, links, or belts and it effectively reduced gun violence from legally owned machine guns to zero.

Why, Joe, why?

Otherwise you are going to get extremely low compliance and probably not surviving legal challenges

short barreled rifles and shotguns. It affected less than 1% of gun owners.

Applying the NFA to assault weapons and high capaciity magazines would affect (at a guess) around half of all gun owners, since AR-style rifles are now the most popular long guns in America, and most handguns these days come with magazines which hold more than 10 rounds.

Interesting. I'm sure this was carefully vetted -- and I'd like to know what the back story is here. Again -- interesting.

This is not the time for wedge issues. We have a real chance of winning moderate republicans and right leaning independents that are sick of Trump. But god, statements like that are going to be hard to overcome.

I can’t think of a more effective way for Biden to push those voters back to Trump.

And for what? We all know there’s no way that an assault weapons ban will pass without a significant change in the makeup of the senate. A change that is far less likely to happen with this statement having been made.

We need to focus on WINNING.
