Here's the good news ...

Last edited Thu Aug 6, 2020, 08:06 PM - Edit history (1)

I know that Trump and the criminal Republican Party have put us, and most sane people, into a state of depression and hopelessness. However, reason for hope has been before our eyes daily, and I for one have, over time, become aware of it.

Today on TV, I saw the black, female Attorney General of New York explaining why she was bringing a law suit to abolish the NRA. I hope she wins but, until today, I didn't know that NY's A.G. was a black woman. And, until this year, I didn't know that black and Latin women and men were mayors and in positions of power in so, so many American cities. Many of us are seeing most of these wonderful people, for the first time, on MSNBC and CNN.

Change is and has been happening at the local level for years. And it seems that sanity is taking place at the local level far beyond what many thought would ever happen.

And it also seems that much of the main stream media has become aware, (and reporting, without actually using the words), that Trump can't win this election. And they are also exposing the ways in which he is attempting to steal it. His insane ranting against voting by mail, and his attempted destruction of the Postal Service, has been a major news topic and exposed for the reality of what it is, and why he's doing it.

He's down to his base of about a third of American voters and there's no way in the world he can add to them. All he can count on is voter suppression by his fascist followers in key states. Yet, even that may not be enough this time around. He's got the "bully pulpit" and will scream about a "rigged election," even after he loses. But, the reality is that, one way or another, he'll leave, or be dragged out of the White House, on January 20th, 2021.

Winning control of the senate, however, is a different story. If we don't win control of it, Joe Biden will be helpless to fix much of the destruction that has been committed against our democracy over the past four years. And even if/when Biden wins, he will be faced with the Herculean task of repairing decades of Republican vandalism against the so called "Greatest country in the world."

Ever since Reagan, the truly great, decent, compassionate America that was built by Democrats during the Great Depression, after WWII, and during the 1960s, has been chipped away at and sabotaged by the malicious Republican machine. And that Republican machine is driven by greed, bigotry, revenge, cruelty, and a poisonous hatred of those "Others" who don't accept the supremacy of white, Christian, European, so-called "patriotic Americans."

I'm holding out hope that the enemies of democracy/freedom and plain human decency have crossed the line to the point where sane people everywhere, who have not been paying attention, are outraged and will not put up with it anymore. And my guess is that, if not during this election, but that in 2022, we will control all branches of government. And from that point on, where we go and what we do as a country will be on us.

republicons ALREADY would never win anything if they didn't cheat. It isn't just a matter of getting the public on our side. I'm not even sure it's mainly a matter of that.

The myriad ways they cheat and steal have to be addressed.

If we can’t get a complete revamping of electoral college, some tweaking of the number of senators to empower the big states would be very beneficial. It’s crazy how lopsided it is.

Maybe work from home could become work from Wyoming, South Dakota, Idaho, Nebraska...

6. Cities are where diversity happens. "Rural" is where everybody looks alike, except the meat packers

...down at the plant. The “Heartland” is where Lake Woebegone is located, and where there are three religions: Lutheran, Catholic, and Baptist.

Change can happen in the rural US, but it happens slowly. Keep working, keep hoping.

I think that Trump has encouraged Democrats to step up THEIR game too! and stop putting up with misogyny by rich white guys, racism by whites in general, etc., if nothing else.
