Worst. Surrogates. Ever.

By Steve Benen

In mid-May, when Herman Cain endorsed Mitt Romney's presidential campaign, he said he'd travel the nation as a surrogate for the Romney campaign. Cain added at the time he'd already spent the spring traveling on Romney's behalf, but now he'd make "a big deal out of it."

Romney may want to reconsider Cain's role on the team.

Herman Cain, the one-time frontrunner for the 2012 GOP presidential nomination, offered reporters in Florida Thursday some speculation on what could have been if he had remained in the race.

According to the Gainesville Sun, Cain said he would have a "substantial lead" over President Barack Obama if he were the Republican nominee instead of Mitt Romney.

"The reason is quite simple: I have some depth to my ideas," he said.

I knew the Romney campaign had the worst surrogates ever, but this is ridiculous.

For what it's worth, it's striking to have a Romney surrogate publicly suggest Romney's ideas lack depth, but it's also hilarious for Herman Cain -- Herman Cain -- to think so highly of his non-existent agenda.

The guy who said "we need a leader, not a reader" and doesn't care who "the president of Ubeki-beki-beki-beki-stan-stan " is probably shouldn't boast about the "depth" of his ideas.

These are the same guys who gave speeches at the RNC and barely mentioned Romney.

As far as I can tell, the only one who is actually acting like a real surrogate is Sununu. And when Sununu is your best surrogate, you in a heap o' trouble.

well, maybe the 3 Witches for Macbeth.

the GOP: continuing to amaze normal humans with -
a) their own stupidity in believing any rational person would elect them; and,
b) the astounding stupidity of the people who actually vote for these clowns of the Reptile circus, against their own interests.

they're stumping for the removal of the remaining Iowa Supreme Court justice that ruled in the landmark case that brought marriage equality to the state.

Hey...just like Jello, there's always room for bigotry!

and I don't mean in a small size, but as a presidential candidate. His blustery vaudeville act is amusing maybe the first two or three times but it doesn't wear well in the long run.
