In a normal year, the news of the increasing pace of layoffs against a backdrop of an unemployment rate of over 10 percent would be the dominant story. Instead, it is a footnote as Trump tries to provoke civil uprising in an effort to distract from the piss poor job he has done as President.

MGM Resorts International has initiated layoffs for thousands of its employees as the casino industrys recovery continues to be stalled by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
On Monday, the entertainment giant cut 18,000 employees nationwide, amounting to about a quarter of its pre-pandemic U.S. staff.
The layoffs at MGM capped a wave of job cuts and buyouts seen across a broad array of industries as a result of the virus, which has since infected more than 6 million people across the nation.
Last week, the Labor Department reported another 1 million Americans applied for unemployment benefits. To date, more than 14.5 million are collecting traditional jobless benefits -- up from 1.7 million a year ago.

(17,390 posts)3. This is what is scary. Remember when Trump wasted millions...
...during the 2018 election to send troops to the Mexican border to gin up enthusiasm among racists? Well, Trump is trying to top that in 2020, and he is succeeded.
