I saw it much more as 45 getting his own cruelty thrown back in his face, but people were genuinely upset by my passing along a jab at him that referred to real tragedies that impact peoples lives.
I am sorry.
people can get themselves worked up over just about anything, you know that. I say enjoy the humor and fuck the killjoys. I know your hear is good, in fact much better than many.

I never took it personally, and I don't really get people who do.
But, you are kindhearted to make the apology.

(3,531 posts)Ill bet your mother was a kind and loving person who did not deserve to spend her final years struggling with declining mental functions and dementia.
That sack of shit in the White House? What ever torments are visited on him he fully has earned. My only problem with tRump getting dementia is if he arrived at a point where he isnt even aware who he is and what hes done. I think he deserves to suffer until he takes his last breath.
That being said, if there are comments here making fun of dementia itself, as if it were a funny thing, I too would take exception with that.

(27,121 posts)Certainly no one who has seen it up close.
I think, like you said, it's more about wishing ill on someone we believe deserves it.
I agree with you, though, I wouldn't want Trump to check out that way. He does need to suffer more.
I hate that man so much for being so awful that I actually WISH suffering on him. What a horrible thing to wish on another being, and I partly hate myself for feeling that way. But really, in the name of justice, he deserves to feel what he has heaped on so many others.

We have to learn to take these things in stride.
Some people are either actively living through it or know someone who has, and that's really tough.
Some others just are too serious, but almost everything can be made fun of. George Carlin says it's all in the framing.

(41,987 posts)but its hard to argue that it could hurt feelings.
It does have me down a philosophical rabbit hole re the inherent cruelty of wit and yet how funny a mean turn of phrase can be. It speaks to who we become to one another, co-conspirators laughing at a situation or predator/prey.
Interesting stuff. My apology is sincere though. I hurt feelings here and that was not my intention.

(7,715 posts)You are merely turning this slob's own words and deeds against him to point out the absurdity of who Trump is, what Trump does, and what Trump says. More than anything, it highlights what a hypocritical fraud he really is.
I am all for taking Michelle O's high road, but with a bully, you have to attack them on all fronts (and backs and sides) to knock them down. That's exactly what the Lincoln Project is doing, and it is why it is so effective. Taking the high road with Trump won't get us anywhere. He has to be slammed from all sides in a 360 degree fashion, high, low, and everything in between.
This never would have worked with Mitt Romney, John McCain, George W. Bush, Bob Dole, George H. W. Bush etc, etc because they were fundamentally decent people. I fully appreciate all their flaws, but none of them was remotely like Trump. It works for Donald Trump. Because that is who Donald Trump is.
He has done this to Joe, he has done this to Elizabeth, he has done this to the poor reporter in 2016 when making fun of his physical issues. And he has done this to us. If the slob can't take a bit of his own medicine, so be it.

(29,322 posts)When Trump says Pocahontas the media & others call him racist for using it so probably using that word against him isn't a great idea.
I'm not making a stand either way but I understand WhiskeyGrinder's point.
DonaldsRump
(7,715 posts)But, there is nothing racist in throwing back racism in the face of the racist/sexist/etc person that raised the racist point in the first place!
That being said, I fully understand your point. But, and this is a big but (pun intended or not, depending on your perspective), most of us in DU would never engage in this with any other politician. But Donald Trump is a gutter-dwelling slob who uses this to score points. Turning it around on him is a greater good rather than racism.
Different strokes for different folks, I suppose.

(34,406 posts)real woman bastardized and used as an insult even to insult a racist. We're better than that. You might think I'm too sensitive, but I've lived with those kinds of slurs all my life being an Indian growing up in northern Michigan. I expect it from assholes--my family and friends have had to deal with it all our lives. I don't expect to see it here. And it's just not funny.
DonaldsRump
(7,715 posts)I am a PoC, but not Native American, but close. I appreciate greatly the points you are making.
However, it was Trump that called our sister Elizabeth Warren, whom I admire and love beyond measure, "Pocahontas". It was Trump who slammed Joe Biden for being "sleepy" and "slow" etc, challenging his mental abilities. It was Trump that mocked the reporter in 2016 for physical issues.
Trump, and not you, I, our ancestors, Joe, Elizabeth or the reporter, put all this in play. It goes RIGHT to the heart of his hypocrisy. And turning this around on its head is not racism...it is belittling the racism/sexism/etc that was at the center of Trump, his words, and his deeds.
That you and I don't see perfectly eye-to-eye on this is understandable. Out of respect to you and others, and your positions on this, this will be my last post on this subject given the concerns you have outlined.
Peace and love, my friend. We're all in this together.

(34,406 posts)just like being Black in the deep south. I was too young to remember this, but there were actually segregated bathrooms, restaurants, and drinking fountains in northern Michigan just like in the Jim Crow South but my family remembered it. It seems whatever minority population is in a particular area gets the same treatment. I didn't meet an African American until I went to college so it was us up north.
And I understand your POV, too. We are all in this together!

(22,359 posts)If this were true, then calling Trump the n-word (or the f-word, for that matter) would be fair game. It shouldn't be.

(90,714 posts)Also, you should hear the grief I get from the ashamed-of-their-own-bodies crowd when I say something about Trump's excess avoirdupois.
We should do the best we can in this life to be kind to others, but I have learned the hard way that it can be crippling to spend my life walking on eggshells all the time.
Doin the best I can, as are we all.

(22,143 posts)about calling people those pathetic nicknames during his pathetic school boy rants that he has every day. Way to act 'grown up', eh?
I've never seen the likes of a full grown man, getting such pleasure out of basically 5th grade school playground material, calling people names. And being a coward while doing it, via cell phone, not in person.
I guess with the sad state of his declining mind, that's the best he can do, I wouldn't be surprised.
It's actually kind of pathetic, especially when he probably comes up with his best work (if one can call it that) while playing w/ himself, thumbing through his dirty girl magazines in his bunker bathroom.
He doesn't deserve a 'GET OUT OF JAIL' card. I don't feel sorry about calling him out and calling him something in return, such as a fat lazy slob, no apologies. An eye for an eye. Until he 'grows up', and start acting like a decent, normal human being (and he's not), then he's fair game. He put the target on his back, no one else did.

(65,078 posts)It's racist if one uses an actual person with actual ethnicity as an insult.
This is a play on PINO's insult, which by adding the stroke implication, becomes a made up word not related to any group of people.
It 100% refers to PINO.

(41,987 posts)I stick to the punch up rule and that was the intent. But its also important to read the room, and the room is the size of the world right now. Its very hard to explain and appreciate that the joke isnt a real wish, just as creating fiction with terrible things happening or a depiction of someone being harmed isnt a real wish for that. Its often just the opposite, a stress reliever for those who are unable to actually effect something or might be in pain. Med students are notoriously godawful, because it gives one a sense of power over the truly horrific things you have to deal with.
But I am sorry that I offended people and that I assumed my intent was clear. As I said in the original thread, the effects of language and wit and insults are really interesting. If I didnt have a million other things to read Id read up on it. 😄

(7,596 posts)I find him getting Alzheimers and forgetting who he is and everything he ever did in his rotten life funny, especially because its the ultimate karmic punishment for an evil narcissist.
I know strokes are serious. I know Alzheimers is serious. Both my grandmothers died of Alzheimers/dementia so I know first hand how devastating it is. Its not something I take lightly.
That being said, humor is known to lighten dark and serious subject matter. If death itself can be funny, I dont see why certain other things cannot be. Trump is a vile, despicable piece of shit and Im not sure if theres a fate that could befall him that I wouldnt take immense pleasure out of.
