Man revives dying bumblebee by hand feeding it honey

YouTube user MadMark came across the stricken insect lying motionless on his garden path before carefully picking it up and giving it a helping hand.
He explained: 'I found a bumblebee lying on its back and motionless on the path and just had to try and help it. I put some honey on its hand and this is what happened.'
Instead of letting Mother Nature take its course, the thoughtful amateur film maker decided to do all he could to nurse it back to health while recording the bee's progress.
He uploaded the video entitled 'Bringing a Bumblebee back to life' online explaining: 'I saw a video on here once of someone reviving a bee with sugar water so thought I would try to save this one with some honey .... It worked.'

They only live less than a year after hatching though, unless one becomes a queen and then she will overwinter.

It's very rewarding. We just find some place safe to let the bee rest then put a small blob of honey down very near it, and it usually finds it itself.

We've never managed to get decent photos of it, though, let alone a video as cool as this, and I'm too chicken to let the bee sit in my hand like that!

The neat thing is looking close up and seeing the bee's tongue coming out of its proboscis and start to lap at the honey. Ten minutes or so later, it'll usually have enough energy to fly away, which is the neatest moment of all.

I thought I was the only person who did this stuff.

I have lots of hives of honeybees out back, but when I find one of the girls clinging to the screen door or on the ground looking under the weather, I always pick her up and give her a little jolt of honey. It often works.

They don't fall down unless they're about to expire. I take them off of the sidewalk and put them in the flower beds to have a dignified death.

glad i saw this, i had always felt weird helping insects..

just the other day a mouth wondered into my bathroom somehow and fell into my shower while i was taking it..
im sure my neighbors got a good show when i threw on a towel n rushed to my porch with it..lol

here was a man who seemed to know that.

I am sick of people who claim that helping wild animals in distress is "interfering with nature." I think of it as participating in nature, of which we are all a part.

Good on the bee saver man!

I saw a bee just like this one sitting on my steps so I put some honey on a leaf next to it and it sucked it right up. I just went out to check on it and it is gone. I wouldn't have known to do this if I hadn't read this post so thanks for posting.
