Gaston , NC, school board candidate stands by calling Black mayor a monkey

A candidate for the Gaston County Board of Education responded to controversial posts he recently shared to his Facebook page.

Gastonia resident Jim England joins two others in running against Dot Guthrie, who has served the Gastonia Township on the school board since 2013.

Over the summer, England reposted several questionable photos.

On one occasion, England shared an altered photo of Lori Lightfoot – the first Black female mayor of Chicago -- which criticized Lightfoot over the high crime rate in Chicago. England reposted the meme and wrote, “looks like a dumb monkey.”

England stood by his Facebook remarks.

“Generally what I post is the damn truth. It’s just a fact. We can’t cover up the truth,” England said.

... A few other things at the site posted where the candidate says:

.. he is running as a conservative to “keep history, the Bible and police in our schools” and “throw out the socialist democrat teachers who are brain washing out children.”

Sharing a photo of a Black man punching a white man at a protest in St. Louis, Missouri, England wrote, “the Black bastards need to be shot.”

England also reposted a photo from July of protestors in front of Tony’s Ice Cream. He wrote, “hopefully the police will get the black bastards out of there and keep my lifelong friends safe. If they do not leave, shoot the bastards.”
