Let’s say Woodward released the tape in February. Without corroboration from the experts, how much weight would people give it? Especially when we still had very few cases and zero deaths? Trump would have spun his way out of it. He would have said he was simply relaying a “theory” and since then he’s learned differently.

No one would have listened to the tape despite it coming from Trump’s own mouth. Trump would have spun that as “That was the theory at the time. We’ve since learned more and it’s not as dangerous as thought back when I gave that interview.” And he could have simply pointed to the extremely rare numbers of deaths in young people (at that time) and people would have bought it.

The story would have fizzled out as the media chased the next crazy thing Trump said.
