(3,629 posts)They both actually listened to people they believed were smarter and wiser than they were. Trump compounds his stupidity by also wrongly believing he is always the smartest person in the room, no matter who else is in the room and no matter what they are trying to tell him.
Laelth
(32,017 posts)Trump is so stupid that he doesnt even KNOW that hes stupid. That makes him very DANGEROUS.

(11,990 posts)It's his narcissim. It's his belief that he is immune from consequences. That he can outwit any mere reporter. It's the same reason he's not doing mock debates in prep for his debate with Biden. Is it a stupid choice? Yes. But he's not making the stupid choice out of stupidity, he's making it out of his psychotic belief in his own superiority.
Laelth
(32,017 posts)Essentially, he acted upon his belief that he could charm anyone and bring them over to his side. Its hubris.

(11,990 posts)I just saw video, I guess it was from the press conference... he recognized Woodward's name as a bigwig journalist, but he didn't really know who he was or what he had done. He apparently didn't know this was one of the guys who brought down Nixon. Geeez.

(23,263 posts)to quote Forrest, "Stupid is as stupid does." And boy, did Stupid do here!
Is there a category beyond "galactically stupid"? If so, put Little Donny in it. The Narcissist Ninny.
BigOleDummy
(2,272 posts)it was a combination of both stupidity AND narcissism. His overwhelming narcissism blinds him to his stupidity.

(67,782 posts)....as angry as I've seen any of them:
Briahna Keilar
Wolf Blitzer
Claire McCaskill
Anderson Cooper
Atlanta Mayor Bottoms
And there may be more.
Plus, for the first time I saw some people pushing back vigorously to the garbage that McEnsanely spewed today.
Just about every person in the country knows someone who died from this disease, so EVERYBODY in the country now has some level of anger about this.

(43,244 posts)Rare, rare, rare, in public life, political or otherwise, to hear someone lambasted as "the stupidest".
I would say, with all that's gone down over the last week - on corona virus and the US military - there's blood in the water.

He has only one care. Dare I guess you may know what that one care is?
Of course you do. You are members of Democratic Underground.
That is precisely why I am also a member of Democratic Underground.

(796 posts)McCaskill could have won reelection, but she stupidly refused to campaign in blue areas--cities--and work on GOTV. Her own campaign staff were frustrated.
Instead she used her energies in red rural areas, having some nutsy idea she could convert them. Boasting to be a "senator for all" became being a senator for none.

The Senate seat in Missouri went Republican because -- Missouri, like a lot of the rest of the "flyover," is trending redder than a fire engine in a 4th of July parade. (PA, OH, MI, WI, IA, KS -- and yes, not coincidentally, MO) Trump took nearly 60% of the Missouri vote in 2016. There are exactly THREE blue counties in Missouri -- and, no (regardless of what the progressives are telling you) you do not win that state in 2018 by concentrating on your base. Your base is no longer big enough to win in state.
And there's always whinging and crying about "well they didn't pay any attention to us .." Nonsense. Grow up and get your ass down to the polls.

(23,717 posts)Because she was a Senator from Missouri, a purple, leaning red state, I always felt she hedged her bets and played very middle of the road.
But since shes been on msnbc, she has really let it fly. All those years of pent up opinion, she has finally let loose.
GopherGal
(2,009 posts)that we're seeing "McCaskill unleashed" since she's no longer having to play to a red-state electorate.

(32,720 posts)I was thinking to myself, "Isn't Bob Woodward the guy who already kicked trump's ass with a book a couple years ago?"
Why yes... Yes, same guy.
Until this thread, I was thinking that trump sat down to do 1 or 2 interviews with Woodward this year. But he did 18???!!!!

(7,639 posts)I hate to say it and sound elitist but its because a large majority of them are stupid too.
Stupid, dull, unimaginative, bigoted and xenophobic. Boring too while Im at it.
We need a much better educational system but when educators try and broaden horizons the parents freak. Not all but the ones who do are noisy and persistent. Often very religiously Christian.

Just sits motionless and closes her eyes, an enigmatic half-smile on her face as the piece ends. i couldn't really tell what she was thinking, but it struck me as either "OMG! Did that just happen? What's going to happen???" OR "Oh, I wish I had the freedom to say that. That was fantastic!"
