By Ben Armbruster
After the anti-American protests erupted in the Middle East earlier this month, Pam Gellers American Freedom Defense Initiative (AFDI) decided to re-up its anti-Muslim ad campaign in New Yorks subway system. The ad, borrowing from an Ayn Rand quote, is meant to imply that Muslims are savages.
New York City transit authorities did not want to display the ads but a federal court said refusing the ads would violate AFDIs First Amendment rights. But now that the ads are up, New Yorkers are taking matters into their own hands, writing RACIST and HATE SPEECH over the ads in certain subway stations:
AFDI is trying to run a similar campaign in the Washington DC Metro but authorities there have so far been successful at blocking the campaign out of a concern for public safety. (HT: Mondoweiss)
UPDATE
Even Fox News, who has promoted Geller in the past, called her groups ads inflammatory and anti-Muslim.

(71,265 posts)... was dumb. I think it is stupid, and dangerous to NYers. This is just picking a fight, and I am worry that we here in NY have to suffer the brunt of terrorism. I give it a few days before someone destroys the ad.

I think someone should be digging up who is behind the Think Tanks who fund this hatred.
Looks like some powerful people are desperately trying to start another in the ME.
She is just a hateful tool who is being used. An investigation into where the money comes from, (they had over $40,000,000 to conduct their last hate filled campaign against Muslims, where did it come from?)
Good for NY. I think it would be a public service to rip all of their posters to shreds.

(71 posts)Yes. There are wealthy "Think Tanks" like The Clarion Fund and many others that foment lies and hate about Islam and Arabs.
It is important that everyone here reads the July 2 issue of The Nation Magazine at thenation.com. It names names and who funds all this hateful garbage. It is shocking how much they have influenced public opinion in the US.
Hate speech has consequences, my friends. I took a human rights tour of Kigali Rwanda and learned that he massacres were fomented
by hate radio. Hate speech like that described in The Nation has no place in my America.
