Controversy over a mosque. No, not in Tennessee. In the Bay Area.

Eurghh.

http://www.mercurynews.com/bay-area-news/ci_21630645/muslim-mosque-approved-south-santa-clara-county

"I think there's a lawsuit coming," said Georgine Scott-Codiga, president of the Gilroy-Morgan Hill Patriots, a politically conservative group in south county. "This is best suited for a more urban area."

Tuesday's public hearing and vote at county headquarters in San Jose lacked much of the inflamed religious tension and anger of previous meetings, but some of those sentiments managed to surface, anyway.

One man even invoked the memory of the Sept. 11 attacks and implied the supervisors could be inviting a terrorist cell to take root.

"It's just astounding you would consider this project," he said.

Okay, so South County ain't exactly Berkeley, but jeez, terrorist cells?

Santa Clara is pretty damn progressive. Just because there are some bigots here doesn't speak for still_one Sep 2012 #4

They need to be able to mitigate the traffic issues and answer concerns about water quality (back to the graveyard part).

They are in a rural area so they need to be willing to tolerate smells, dust and noises from nearby/adjacent agriculture operations, even if it is a pig farm.

To show how thoroughly Islamophobia has infiltrated the country, even in relatively progressive areas like ours.

edit: Berkeley + right-wing loony = John Yoo.
