Massachusetts democrats saw that Romney was working hard to set up a second term win and used Romney's focus to get health care reform passed. After passage of the law, Romney did nothing but attack it, the democratic Senate and House had to fight Romney off to keep the law from getting gutted. Romney made enough mistakes in other areas that it became obvious that he could not win a second term. Romney left the health care reform and state finances in tatters and went around the country trashing Massachusetts. Deval Patrick defeated Romney's replacement in 2006 and started to resurrect schools and the health care reform bill. Patrick put muscle and people resources behind school reform and implementing health care reform. Patrick sent a capable administrator to run the health care initiative and got rid of Romney's stooge. The new administrator set about working with fine hospitals and also setting up a health care super-market that is the strong skeleton of the successful health-care initiative that Patrick built. Romney didn't build Massachusetts health-care, Deval Patrick did along with a courageous and determined state Senate and House.
