A 2nd grade teacher in one of our local schools was assaulted yesterday

by one of her students. She got down on the child's level to instruct him/her (I don't know if the child was a boy or girl) and the child attacked her. Head butting, hair pulling, I don't know what else. The child had to be pulled off her by other adults. One of my relatives is an administrator in the school system and is dealing with this now. How does a second grader get this way and where do you go from here? I'm floored by this.

could be a form of mental illness or even a physical disorder. I worked with kids who would be sweet as angels one day, but they would come in another day suffering effects of their disease or disorder, and they were completely different people - combative, surly, insulting.

Hard to tell in this case without more info.

I hope your friend wasn't seriously hurt, and that the child gets the help he or she requires.

hit me, kicked me, scratched me, verbally assaulted me, you name it. I documented everything and went to the director of the center. She called in the boy's mother for intervention. (Single mother raising this kid) She listened and then responded it was all right for him to do this because "maybe he was aggravated by hrt race". I'm not making this up. I'm not looking to flame. I was wordless. She was serious. I stuck it out four more months before I left. I couldn't change this kid.
