Todd Akin appeared to endorse allowing employers to pay women less than men at a town hall on Thursday.
Gender discrimination is illegal in the United States. In video provided by Sen. Claire McCaskill's campaign, Akin responded to a question about the Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act -- which made it easier for workers to sue over unequal pay -- by suggesting that employers shouldn't even be barred from paying women less in the first place:

This guy seems to be a misogynist to a degree few of us has ever imagined.

(12,461 posts)gals in Missouri are not this stupid. They are working hard for that dollar you can be sure...just as hard as a man. Even they will understand this. Missouri men whose wives work, want them paid their due. If they can work the job the same as a man, they should be paid the same. Two income families dont diferenciate gender...everyone works hard...I never heard anyone tell me, that they dont work hard at their job, when it means survival to keep it.

(25,699 posts)They say shit that will make most people hat them, because it'll make a few people love them, and then they think those few people, plus the "undecideds" are going to make a win.
And then sometimes, they're proven right.
The fuck what?

(12,471 posts)He's in favor of "Free Enterprise," where corporations can pay whatever they want. I bet if he was asked if there should be a minimum wage, he would also be against a minimum wage, for the same reason.
He's just a corporate tool, be it with women, men, children, pets, or other animals. If a corporation wants to hire someone, they should be able to pay whatever the minimum a person will accept will be. This is one of the reasons why in many urban areas, you see a lot of Central and South Americans working "off the books" for lower than minimum wages. It's more than they would get paid in Guatemala or Mexico, so they take it.
