Appearing Sunday on ABC's "This Week," White House senior adviser David Plouffe continued to lower expectations for President Obama's debate performance on Wendesday night.
"Challengers tend to do really well in debates," he said. "That's been the history. We've believed all along that Governor Romney probably has more benefit out of this debate, potentially, than we do."

(25,415 posts)So he will probably do okay and a lot of the MSM will declare that because of that he did wonderful. However, I don't think the debates will really change much. Romney is still unlikable and has nothing to offer in terms of specifics. Like Chris Mathews said, he can memorize talking points but it is very mechanical.

(31,706 posts)I can't think of a candidate where so much was riding on 90 minutes...actually only the first 15 minutes or so. The Bishop will need some golden moment...either that memorable zinger or talking point that will be talked about endlessly for the rest of the campaign. He's gonna need to make President Obama cry and drool on his shoes...perception is once again reality. And in some ways this is the Stench's best and only chance. Since he's so plastic, he may find that broadside but in his anxiety he'll blow the moment...and it'll have minimal effect; may even backfire.

(52,166 posts)that Romney would likely be judged the winner of the debate will call him one too. Somehow I doubt it.
