Pros: Capable off-road performer, smooth ride on pavement, straightforward cabin layout, comfortable seating.

Cons: Lackluster five-cylinder performance, poor outward visibility, tight on cargo space and rear headroom, lousy fuel economy, unknown future of the Hummer brand.

"...But secret plans and skimpy details aren’t really what’s missing in Romney. What’s missing is any sense of shame when it comes to making a sale. He’ll pitch it flat, and pitch it sharp. He’ll paint it black and peddle it white. He’s a true conservative on Monday, a raging moderate today, an enlightened reformer on Wednesday. The president looked exasperated just trying to figure out what Romney Romney was peddling last night..."

I thought that was why he was looking at Jim Lehrer.

It was a performance for the ages.

This is the best analogy I've read. Used car salesmen versus engineer

The Republicans used to call Bill Clinton slick Willy.

Actually what we had last night was really slick -- slick Mitty.

He was selling, not debating.

But sell you must.

Obama is great in a crowd. His speeches are inspiring. But his debating was lukewarm.

I wonder if he is worried about the situation in Turkey and Syria. That could get us into a war. I believe that Turkey is a member of NATO -- and since Turkey is fighting with Syria, what does that mean for us?

North Atlantic Council statement on developments on the Turkish-Syrian border

03 Oct. 2012
Meetings of the NATO Foreign and Defence Ministers at NATO Headquarters, Brussels - North Atlantic Council Meeting with NATO Defence Ministers

As stated on 26 June 2012, the Alliance continues to closely follow the situation in Syria. In view of the Syrian regime’s recent aggressive acts at NATO’s southeastern border, which are a flagrant breach of international law and a clear and present danger to the security of one of its Allies, the North Atlantic Council met today, within the framework of Article 4 of the Washington Treaty, and discussed the continuous shelling of locations in Turkey adjacent to the Turkish-Syrian border by the Syrian regime forces.

Aren't we bound to defend Turkey?

The North Atlantic Treaty Organization or NATO (play /ˈneɪtoʊ/ NAY-toh; French: Organisation du traité de l'Atlantique Nord (OTAN)), also called the (North) Atlantic Alliance, is an intergovernmental military alliance based on the North Atlantic Treaty which was signed on 4 April 1949. The organization constitutes a system of collective defence whereby its member states agree to mutual defense in response to an attack by any external party.

Slickness implies an element of charm. He had zero charm. He was annoying.

He was like that loud-mouthed kid in grammar school that sucked up to the teacher, but even the teacher couldn't stand him.

In the end... far more people buy cars from car salesmen.

You could have made the very same comparison with Reagan/Carter. There's no question that Carter was smarter... but not the better salesman.

allowing Mitt to define the rules

Lehrer should hang it up

The Peter Principle states that people rise in an organization
until they achieve their own level of incompetence. Then they
cannot be promoted any further, so they just stay there,
resulting in widespread incompetence.

There must be a corollary for age. Jim Lehrer reached it last night.

We've seen the last of Jim Lehrer as a moderator. Don't wish the man any ill will, but it's time for him to hang up his saddle and spurs and mosey on off to the pasture. He was (as my husband often says) " Useless as tits on a boar hog."
