Deploying Twitter-speak, KitchenAid sent this message: "Obamas gma even knew it was going 2 b bad! 'She died 3 days b4 he became president."

(14,732 posts)I told them I am in the market for a new dishwasher (am) but would not be buying it or any other product from them because every time I look at their products I would think of that hateful tweet and walk away.

==============
KitchenAid's Cynthia Soledad told Mashable in an e-mail:
"During the debate tonight, a member of our Twitter team mistakenly posted an offensive tweet from the KitchenAid handle instead of a personal handle. The tasteless joke in no way represents our values at KitchenAid, and that person won't be tweeting for us anymore. That said, I lead the KitchenAid brand, and I take responsibility for the whole team. I am deeply sorry to President Obama, his family, and the Twitter community for this careless error. Thanks for hearing me out."

(8,377 posts)using company computers while working on the clock at Kitchenaid?
It is a free country if they want to condone that kind of thing. But I won't support it. Fortunately there are other companies who can supply these products.

(28,791 posts)the older models are great workhorses, and you won't be giving any money to the current owners The new models are crap compared to the old ones anyway.

(102,352 posts)I could not be happier and I use it daily. Given I used to replace blenders/food processors at least every 12 -18 months, I figure I've just about reached the break even point and if I still have nearly six years on the warranty, I should be golden. A lot of money up front, but I do love that it is and has always been US-made.

(102,352 posts)around $450.00. They have different models now. I have the red one which puts a smile on my face every time I see it. I would recommend getting the shorter container though (otherwise mine would not have fit under my counters). I store the taller one for those occasions I need a larger volume.

No, I have absolutely no personal interest in the company (beyond supporting a long standing American company that still manufactures in the US)

(8,377 posts)Can anybody determine if KitchenAid indeed did the responsible thing and fired this employee?
I certainly won't consider any Kitchenaid products in the future if they have a workplace where that is tolerated.
You want to make sure that doesn't happen again? Give it consequences. Where is this personal accountability I keep hearing Republicans talk about?

(8,377 posts)I find it very interesting that Republicans lecture us so often on the subject of personal accountability, but they don't make this employee accountable by terminating their employment.
Do not contact me with a form letter. If you terminate the employee, please advise me of that and I will consider your company for future purchases. If you do not terminate the employee, don't bother to write.

(102,352 posts)that simply removing that employee from twitter responsibilities was an abhorrent response in terms of its failure to address the issue.
I really let them have it and that I would be spreading the word to everyone I knew that was considering kitchen remodels or new appliances for some time to come unless a far more appropriate explanation and response was forthcoming and that would include firing the employee and reassuring the public that that did not reflect the attitudes nor climate at KitchenAid.
She indicated that there was a very high level "pow wow" ongoing as we speak and that KA would be releasing more throughout the day.

(102,352 posts)tried very hard to make sure she knew I was not blaming her... I also underscored that I found the use of a beloved departed grandmother to attack a Presidential candidate abhorrent--and would no matter which side I was supporting.
Please folks, be assertive, but courteous.

(14,732 posts)his dead grandmother that really hit home to me. Don't the people who write/say these things have anyone they love and care about? It made me so sad.

(982 posts)I had a mixer that my grandmother gave me, lasted 10+ years.
Bought a bigger one when something went wrong with that one, and I have gone through 10 mixers since. Luckily most were under warranty, but I did have to buy a new one at one point, which the company use to have a lifetime guarantee. Now they are getting much tighter with helping people who have problems with their shoddy products because they moved to China to make themselves more money while screwing over Americans taking their jobs and making us have to buy more mixers.
Not to keep ranting but since they deserve the bad PR, it is not just me that feels this way. Take a walk through the Amazon products and every knows the quality has gone down, way down.
It is unAmerican to make shoddy products in countries with no environmental regulations just so you can use slave labor and avoid paying taxes just to satisfy your insatiable greed.
