Should Obama use the same strategy of not countering lies, himself, again in the next debate?

He will come up with the right tactic. He's not used to dealing with screwballs and liars - his staff handles them folks...

The timed answers rather than the "free flowing" blocks of time ( ) will make it easier for Obama to not get dragged into a "no i didn't / yes I did" match and leave him less vulnerable to being either interrupted or provoked.

it's not the candidates facing each other down so much.

Now, if you want to ask about the final debate... Well, in that case, Obama should get a few shots off, I guess. Assuming the President and the Candidate manage to take time off from blandly praising "the troops" and trying to outbid each other on the subject of Israel / Iran.

But if Mitt does this again, he's got to say "I have to wonder why I'm here, Mitt--you seem to be providing both sides of the debate at the same time."

He needs to be proactive. He knows what the lies are going to be, so he needs to talk about his own record highlighting the truth; e.g. "Obamacare saved Medicare. Were it not for healthcare reform, destruction would have been forced on it, massive direct cuts or massive indirect cuts such as turning it into vouchercare. I'm extremely proud of this law because of the millions of lives that it will save from predatory greed."

"Is not!"
"Is so!"...
Is the game that Romney wants.

But at the same time, he doesn't have to continue making a show of assuming good faith.

Now I know there is a political strategy in there, but it's kind of like saying the "beef is in there" whether you taste it or not.

He's going to have to step it up and make sure no one mistakes the beef in the next debates, regardless of what his antagonists that scream "angry black man!" scream.

He's an articulate, decisive person with a great head on his shoulders. He needs to show it.
