I wrote the above as a complete fallacy, but strangely, I don't think it strays too far from the guy's mindset.

because he's a complete idiot.

He has no clue about finances, contrary to popular belief. He has people do that for him and they are "yes" men and women. Can you imagine a white house full of people like that.
