President Obama Mocks Romney for "Getting Tough on Big Bird," Warns Elmo to "Make a Run for It."

by TomP

President Obama has got his mojo back. It started yesterday and he's gaining more by the day. No doubt the unemployment numbers helped today, but I think President Obama just bounces back from adversity. He's a fighter. It may not have been his best debating performance this week. Yes, he was rusty and perhaps thrown off by Romney's bald-face lying. But I would not bet against this man. President Obama has overcome far more than a mediocre debate performance in his life. He's a winner.

Today he's treating Romney with the disdain that Mitt deserves, ridiculing Romney's war on Sesame Street.

When (Romney) was asked how he’d actually cut spending and reduce the deficit, he said he’d go after funding for public television.

AUDIENCE: Booo --

THE PRESIDENT: So for all you moms and kids out there, don’t worry, somebody is finally getting tough on Big Bird. (Laughter.) Elmo, you better make a run for it. (Laughter.) Governor Romney is going to let Wall Street run wild again, but he’s going to bring the hammer down on “Sesame Street.”

AUDIENCE: Booo --

THE PRESIDENT: You want me to save Big Bird? (Applause.)

AUDIENCE: Save Big Bird! Save Big Bird! Save Big Bird!

He thought he made a clever joke about Big Bird. Now, Big Bird is biting him on the ass and won't let go.

Unexpected consequences.

Sorry, Willard. Another fuck-up, another day...

If you take it seriously and fight back, you look like a humorless boor.
If you let it go, you risk becoming a joke.

Obama wasn't going for the quick win he was going for the long haul. Mitt prepped for the debates based on the McCain debates of 2008 along with the typical attacks that Obama has been making towards Romney.

Romney had a slew of zingers all lined up ready to be fired based all all the comments he expected Obama to say including a masterful one he wanted to use when Obama brought up the 47% video. In fact the Romney campaign even BRAGGED about all the zingers they had planned for that debate.

Obama basically gave Romney nothing. And since Romney couldn't find any use of his prepared zingers he had to rely on what he knew which was the typical lies and flip-flops he's been spewing for months now. Sure Romney seemed like he was more of the 'attacker' than Obama but Romney really didn't give us anything very truthful or consistent during that debate. And when Big Bird popped out well that pretty much has been the #1 talking point out of the election.

Next debate is Foreign Policy which Romney really doesn't have much to go on other than his company shipped alot of jobs overseas. Obama isn't Joe Biden when it comes to debating but he can hold his own. And Obama doesn't have to be a top debater, he's a top strategist who thinks 5 moves ahead to how things will be seen in the long run. Romney got a 'win' in that first debate but days later Obama is looking like the winner.
